Well, if we are looking for a murderer, we first need evidence of a murder. That is, we don't just look at a dead person and say that person X is the murderer because someone must have done it.

First we look at the evidence and see if there is evidence that a murder occurred at all. It's possible it was suicide, until we know more information.

So, just as a death may be a suicide (or even by natural causes), so too may the universe simply have become like it is through the operation of natural processes. So, if you are going to claim that the universe had an external cause, then it would be up to you to present evidence for it. Declaring by fiat that "universes don't just happen and therefore Allah did it" is not evidence, it's an assumption.

Another example is that it does not follow from the existence of a rock that somehow it had to have been deliberately fashioned. We know that rocks form via lots of natural processes over long or short periods of time. Volcanic rocks form fairly quickly when magma cools. Sedimentary rocks form over long periods of time through application of more and more pressure. Similarly, we know that stars just don't pop into existence, the form over long periods of time as interstellar matter accumulates until a known threshold of pressure and gravity and the strong/weak nuclear forces and electromagnetism interact to allow fusion to begin. We know that this process of fusion converts large amounts of lighter elements into heavier elements. All this happens not through the hand of any deity, but through natural processes that through observation, testing and experimentation, and mathematics, can be known.

So, to go back to the murder analogy, at this point we don't know if a murder was committed. As far as anyone knows, this happened via natural causes. If someone can come up with proof that the death occurred through other than natural causes, then that would be interesting. Do you have any evidence of that?
