All the Tory papers today are attacking Nick Clegg. If it wasn't so transparently hypocritical given the recent expenses scandal it would make me really mad. They are just throwing mud in the hope some of it will stick.

Ironically because it is so transparent, petty and small minded I think it might have the reverse impact and help him.

I know I am seriously considering giving them my vote for the first time.

I was originally a lefty socialist type. Those days are never going to come back and one must move on I suppose.

I like a lot of the Libs policies. New Labour policies seem to me to put a mildly socialist looking gloss over the naked face of capitalism.

The only serious vote I ever made was for the Lib Dems, back in 1997 I think. Since then, the only real vote I cast was for Plaid once because my then g/f wasn't registered to vote when she moved in with me, so I 'gave' her my vote. Every other general and Welsh Assembly election, I've spoiled my ballot paper. It's almost inconceivable that the Lib Dems could get in in my constituency, and I'm 100% convinced that if they ever won a general election, they would be as useless as the other lot, but for the first time ever I have the feeling that my individual vote might count for something. I hope the Lib Dems get many more seats than usual, as a more powerful minor party they can have a great deal of influence on policy making - which is good for democracy IMO. In my constituency, there'll almost certainly not get a seat, but I can actually see the value in increasing their vote share by one (especially as I think lots of other people will do the same this time round). However, the party who's policies I identify with most are the Greens, and then not completely. But voting for them would really be a wasted vote in any practical sense.

I'm still not sure how or if I'll vote.

While they moved very far from their socialist roots, they kept the aspect to do with social control and nannyism, but magnified them greatly.

It's funny, I think that too, but I still want them to do well because I think it would make the others less complacent. I hate the idea that the media decide who's going to win and the tories just sit back and wait to govern.
