You can counterclaim to get those videos reinstated, depending on the fair use policy within the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Re: Downfall satire videos pulled from the internet. WTF?!?
The first time I watched a parody was not long after watching the movie and I had a little difficulty setting my sentiments from the movie aside. Once I did though ...

That's Youtube's policy. "Pull on protest, re-instate on counter-protest if possible." They have a very high IMAC factor there.leo-rcc wrote:You can counterclaim to get those videos reinstated, depending on the fair use policy within the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Youtube has no choice in that. They have to pull those videos when a claim is made as the DMCA stipulates.Gawdzilla wrote:That's Youtube's policy. They have also made deals with music companies to mute the audio on videos containing copyrighted sound tracks. You can then either counterclaim for fair use (which will be determined on a case by case basis) or you can agree to have an advert run underneath your video where one can click on to buy the music track.

The problem with fair use is that it essentially means nothing if the company wants it to be pulled down anyway. All it does is protect you from litigation the first time around.

99.99% of the people who can name the film today and describe at least a part of it.Pappa wrote:The funny thing is... how many people only know about the film because of these parodies?
That probably describes half of the total sales of the film since it was released, and 99% of the sales of the film over the last three years, during which it has experienced an unprecedented sales boost, and was profitable enough to be released on Blu-ray four years after its tiny theatrical run. It has slowly crawled up the IMDB Top 250 of all time (it has reached #81 at the time of this writing) only because of the parodies. The film's rating was much lower five years ago.Pappa wrote:I'd never heard of it, yet I bought a copy because of the free advertising they got off the back of the clips.
Now it will slide downward.

I saw Der Untergang in the cinema as soon as it came out. I was mightily pissed off to see microphone booms in the shot in the first scene.

Yes, it was great because it was A) topical, B) self-referential like infinite mirrors, and C) sticks it to the man!AshtonBlack wrote:"I fucking hate cats."

Yes! And it's all those things because of the parodies that preceeded it, including Tig's gems.Bella Fortuna wrote:Yes, it was great because it was A) topical, B) self-referential like infinite mirrors, and C) sticks it to the man!AshtonBlack wrote:"I fucking hate cats."

The picture is so bad it's unwatchable, even if I could read the subtitles, which I can't because the picture is so bad.Bella Fortuna wrote:Enjoy while it lasts...![]()

It's not a justification for copyright infringements, but it indicates a certain stupidity by the owners. Shortly after Monty Python made their works available on Youtube, sales of their DVDs increased by over 1000%. As for the Hitler reacts to the Hitler parodies being removed from YouTube variation: Pure gold!
