He was obviously referring to the Australian Liberal party, traditionally conservative.
"The fact is that far more crime and child abuse has been committed by zealots in the name of God, Jesus and Mohammed than has ever been committed in the name of Satan. Many people don't like that statement but few can argue with it."

"It is not acceptable that women or people in general are a product to be sold."
How is this different to any form of labour/service that a person might provide in return for cash?

Misguided feminists. They're acting like republicans. :nono:

Back in the 80's feminists and republicans formed an alliance to go after porn in the US. Talk about strange bedfellows. Until caribou Barbie came along the GOP didn't give a hoot about feminism. :nono:

The strange thing is that prostitution is still legal here. So you can fuck someone for money but you aren't allowed to show them your tits :what:
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

This is part of an alarming trend in the West. We seem to, under the rubric of progressive and liberal politics, be eliminating individual freedoms.

This is a grave violation of civil rights, in my opinion. What a woman chooses to do with her body is her business. If she wants to dance, she can dance. If she wants to accept money from someone she can accept money from someone. If she is being harassed or coerced, then the person committing the crime should be arrested.

Kolbrun Halldorsdottir, who first proposed the law, said on Wednesday, “It is not acceptable that women, or people in general, are a product to be sold.”

Really? Who fucking says? It's not "acceptable?" So, some people don't like it when people get paid to titillate other people. I say, fuck them.

If a stripping ban is advanced by religious groups ostensibly to protect women, then it's "oh! no! can't have that!" But, when it's advanced by a self-avowed "feminist" who tells us what SHE thinks is acceptable for women to do with their own bodies, then it all makes perfect sense....thunderous applause... :lay:

Totally agree.

In fact:

Another thing is that this just drives sex underground and will make a lot of women who were strippers to be prostitutes instead.

A country with a tiny population of 320,000, it is on the brink of achieving what many considered to be impossible: closing down its sex industry.
Closing down the sex industry? Fucking bullshit. It's driving the industry underground. Prime Minister Sigurdardottir has obviously never touched a history book. Otherwise she'd given the idea of the ban the boot for being the nutty counterproductive and unworkable law that it is. Look at what 'The Prohibition' did to US society. Nothing could have fostered organised crime and corruption more effectively.

This will have no effect on Iceland. Everyone knows that their main industries are fishing, dragons, and screaming. As long as they keep exporting reindeer bones and giggles, the Icelandic people won't give a damn if their sex industry is obliterated or that the value of volcanic ash has now deflated to next to nothing. Even if the clouds in the banks get a little low, they can just take Bjork's eye.

Ian wrote:Wait... it's an alarming liberal trend? :what:
No, what I said was that it was an "alarming trend in the West." This PARTICULAR action is spurred by self-avowed liberals (feminists movement in Iceland).
Ian wrote: So, what do you make of Holland?
Holland also has some alarming things going on. The prosecution of people for espousing political, religious and nationalist opinions is quite alarming, and also done under the rubric of multiculturalist liberalism.

It is not, of course, "liberal" in the traditional sense, since a "liberal" would not advocate legal prosecution of either strip club owners or people espousing unpopular or distasteful points of view.

Feminists and Republicans?

In the 1980s, freedom of expression was under assault form all sides - Democrats - like Al Gore's wife Tipper Gore - were engaged in a movement to censor rock and roll lyrics. Remember all the Congressional hearings held where guys like Frank Zappa and Dee Snyder testified about rock lyrics? Those were all Democrat led Congressional committee hearings. The end result was the labeling and warning label system, since thankfully they were not able to out-and-out censor words and music.

I guess there must be an exception for women who work for themselves. They can fuck for money, but they can't profit off their employee's nudity. Maybe if she works for herself, then she's not considered her own employee, but if she has other people working for her and she's profiting off their nudity, that would be illegal. I.e. - you can fuck for money, or even dance for money, as long as you are the only one making money off your efforts? :dono:

What republicans opposed the democrats on that issue?

I have no idea. But, why would you mention the Republicans, but not the Democrats, when it was a Democrat led issue? I have no issue with you calling Republicans out on that, but when the movement was led by Democrats one would think they deserved a mention....

Great, so instead of stripping they go in to illegal prostitution or work for even less money at a check out.
Or they emigrate... the job market is a real doozy in Iceland since the banks folded down... and with the depletion of halieutic resources, even fish-gutter isn't really a possibility anymore.
