Re: Wind Farms!
I'm not too worried about exploding windmills. The reason this video even made the news is because it is so rare in the first place.

Re: Wind Farms!
It depends on the siting of the farm. Some are just slammed up in places that don't have enough wind to give the impression of doing something about the environment. In these cases the carbon cost of building and maintaining them outweighs the benefit.
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
Code: Select all
// Replaces with spaces the braces in cases where braces in places cause stasis
$str = str_replace(array("\{","\}")," ",$str);

Re: Wind Farms!
I like them on the basis that I hate wind. What has wind ever done for us, huh? It messes up your hair and ruins most mildy sunny days by making it not quite warm enough to take your jumper off.
I say make it pay it's way! Bloody useless sponging weather.

I'd like to see off-shore wind farms that also deploy tidal turbines.newolder wrote:http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2 ... r-scotlandGawdzilla wrote:So Tidal Power, anyone?

Re: Wind Farms!
This the kind of place that would be perfect for wind-and-water farms, IMHO.newolder wrote:That's the kind of grid technology I'm thinking of too.Gawdzilla wrote:I'd like to see off-shore wind farms that also deploy tidal turbines.newolder wrote:http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2 ... r-scotlandGawdzilla wrote:So Tidal Power, anyone?

Lots of water and a handy tie-rack too.

And no danger of ships colliding with them. Put a row of turbines on the inside of each bridge and tidal turbines between each support and run the cables down the side of the bridge. Easy access. And the Chesapeake has one hell of a tidal rip. I saw it push aircraft carriers around with impunity.newolder wrote:Lots of water and a handy tie-rack too.

Re: Wind Farms!
Scotland could probably go totally renewable, couldn't it? I mean, if we had the money to do it.
Benefit of having a massive country with hardly any people in it I guess.

The announcer just said debris was found spread over "a large area", and that the cops had established a security zone at 400m surrounding the site.leo-rcc wrote:He did say that some debris was found over 400m away.
