Do unto others after their predecessors have done unto your predecessors? What's that - the Slag Rule?Mung Bean wrote:Absolutely. It's their own medicine. An eye for an eye, just like their bible says. If they don't renounce Christianity they should be burned alive. We can also toast marshmallows at the same time so it's all good.Bruce Burleson wrote:Do unto others after their predecessors have done unto your predecessors? 'Ken oath, they are, just like the jews. Vatican Priest Likens Criticism Over Abuse to Anti-Semitism. Father Cantalamessa, who serves under the title of preacher of the papal household quoted a letter he received from a friend, which said in part: "The use of stereotypes, the passing from personal responsibility and guilt to a collective guilt, remind me of the more shameful aspects of anti-Semitism."Tigger wrote:Are Christians Being Persecuted?
Oh, the irony.
Got to admire the RCC's chutzpah in trying to evade the central issue, though. It is not "tarring all clergy with the same brush". It is the systematic and uncorrected practice to help the pedophiles among their midst evade secular justice. It is Ratzinger's letter (he wrote it when he was the cardinal in charge of what used to known as "The Inquisition") to all bishops of the RCC that betraying those rapists to secular powers will be punished with excommunication. That official vatican policy that has not been rescinded to this day.
Oh, and those allegations of pedophilia among clerics are according to another cardinal no more than "petty gossip".

Re: On TV: Are Christians Being Persecuted?
I agree, fuck 'em. Those Christians in Britain don't know what real persecution really is. They should try living in Egypt, then they'll know better.Tigger wrote:Are Christians Being Persecuted?
A BBC tv programme tonight http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00rx7tj investigates – to use the expression loosely – the fact that “Many Christians feel that Christianity - once the heart of British society - is being pushed to the margins.”
Any thoughts from anyone who’s watched/ing it?
Fuck 'em I say, but that's not very persuasive of me.

Re: On TV: Are Christians Being Persecuted?
I found the whole concept too annoying to watch the full programme, but I did watch ten minutes and the drift of it seemed to me that Xians are losing their special privileges which were historically in place as the Church is 'established' here as part of the state. The fact also that we are a multi-ethnic and country with a variety of religions represented was part of that mix.
Anyway they were talking shit. 'Nuff said.

I forced myself to watch the whole thing. Historically forgetful, factually inaccurate and unbelievable editorial bias. IMHO, of course.Rum wrote:I found the whole concept too annoying to watch the full programme, but I did watch ten minutes and the drift of it seemed to me that Xians are losing their special privileges which were historically in place as the Church is 'established' here as part of the state. I did not watch the video, but I read the related article here - Christians discriminated against, bishops warn
It's fair to say that Christians in some parts of the world are genuinely persecuted, like in Sudan, for example.... and it is a stinking abuse of human rights regardless of peoples' belief systems...
Anyway ... where would the Christian church be without an ongoing sense of martydom and persecution for one's faith? It's a bedrock tenet.

Re: On TV: Are Christians Being Persecuted?
I have no respect for anyone who maintains an irrational belief system and uses it as an excuse for their behaviour, whatever form that may take. I am rampantly antitheist, and all religions drive me to despair. I know some people who have faith, perhaps even some friends with the same condition, but I won't talk about it to them because it will likely end up in an argument that I don't want to have. I am actually more "Christian" in my approach to life and others' needs than, I would say, most Christians - I detest it when my altruistic persona is credited with "Christian" values - and I am firmly of the opinion that we as a society don't need this shite.Bruce Burleson wrote:So, they are not being persecuted now, but you would if given the chance - right?Tigger wrote:Kill them all, then.
Having said that, I wouldn't really kill anyone. Hi, Bruce.
