What's the big deal with this?

Actually, I have the same attitude about "American football".

Sweeping generalizations aside, people all over the world do the same thing.

"Ah, you're from America? You must know my cousin, he lives in New York City."

"Yeah, that's not far from Indiana."

I know that to Americans this can't seem like a real "World" event as other countries are allowed to participate.

Best players in the world! They play three seasons there, so they get a lot of practice.

I follow baseball and i'd say 30-70% of all teams are furriners. You can get a green card alot faster by being a gun or up and coming pitcher/baseman/batter for *insert team* than jorge cleaning the dunnies at maccas. :tea:

There has being a fair few Australians/Austrians playing in the big league too over the years. Hell one won a world series with the Yankees ( :|~ ),Grant Balfour pitched for the tampa bay rays when they somehow made the world series (i think before that season the phrase not a cold day in hell was appropriate).

From the wiki :
The series were promoted and referred to as the "The Championship of the United States",[4][5] "World's Championship Series", or "World's Series" for short. As baseball outside of North America was not equal to that of North America at the time, the winners of the championships were by default the best baseball team in the world.
Ahhh so make up a sport, then you can claim to be the best in the world.
I always thought that it was because there was a "World" newspaper or something, not ego.

At least us Brits made up a sports and then have the good grace not to be very good at them. (Rugby, Cricket and Football.)

There are other countries? When did this happen? And did we give them permission?
