Rush thinks amnesty will be next...

Post by Godless Libertarian » Mon Mar 22, 2010 6:06 pm

Heard him say on the radio today that now that the healthcare bill has passed, the dems will pursue amnesty for "illegal" immigrants as the next big issue.

Agree / disagree?

Personally I hope he's right. Amnesty would be a huge step forward compared to this "fences with guns" nonsense I hear from the minutemen types.

Useful statistic: 59% of Americans still agree with building a fence on the U.S.-Mexico border.

If they're legal they have to pay taxes. :plot:

Yes. I find this is a preferable fate to being deported, or electrocuted or shot on sight.

They're not going to find better jobs just because they're legal, either. The economy just doesn't have better right now.

Possibly. If that's the case, there's not much motivation for sticking around anyway right?

They'll be making less than they were when they were los non-documentos after taxes. But they don't have to worry about Emigre kicking in their door some night. (I used to run with them in San Diego County. Those green/brown SUVs made a lot of people nervous.)

Is it being built by illegals?

The problem is that there just isn't enough enforcement personnel to get rid of all those breaking the law by either entering the country illegally or overstaying their visas. Let's be clear here. Whatever you call them, whether it be "illegal alien" or "undocumented alien" or whatever, they are all doing one thing: breaking the law. They are in violation of the law by either entering the United States without a visa, visa waiver, green card, or other lawful status, or by overstaying their visa. The law does not take anyone by surprise on this. These folks know what they're doing, and they violate the law. Frankly, if they can be forgiven for violating immigration law, then I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to violate some laws myself.

But, alas, enforcement is at a premium.

The only way I can think of to do this is to create a requirement that every person present on the soil of the US have a card. That card could be swiped by any law enforcement officer and a database would hold status information: citizen, permanent resident, visa holder, etc. - whatever, along with a departure date, if applicable. If you are found by law enforcement officer and your record can't be verified or you're beyond your date to exit the country, then you should be arrested and detained, given a lawyer if you can't afford one, and have a hearing on your status before a federal judge. If you are determined to be not legally in the country, you should be returned to your country of origin.

I am not anti-immigrant. I'm a child of immigrants. However, there are millions of immigrants who come to the US lawfully and remain lawfully. It is not fair to them to allow special rights to those who consciously disobey the law. It's lawlessness.

This is a big problem, and one that I'm very familiar with. What many millions of illegals do is come to this country and live under the table. They start businesses and never pay taxes because they never have social security numbers. They get fake social security numbers and use them as needed, but what happens is they run up bills on those numbers and then they never pay them. They incur medical bills on fake socials and never pay them. They get jobs with fake socials, etc. They are very common in cleaning businesses and other menial tasks. One thing that most people don't know is that banks will open up accounts for them without social security numbers at all!

Americans are more of a danger to America than illegal immigrants are.
