One in 10 children thinks the Queen invented the telephone, a survey of children's science knowledge suggests.

Others gave credit for the invention to Charles Darwin and Noel Edmonds.

I wonder how many think god designed it. :nono:

I'd want a comparison between now and then to judge if it's any better or worse (also taking into account what kids are actually taught in the curriculum).

How do you get English children enrolled in Mississippi schools?

Something else to consider - in the 2009 national science tests, 88% of all 11 years olds reached level 4 (the expectation for their age) and 43% exceeded it and reached level 5 (the expectation for 13 year olds).

If you want to see what those levels look like - here's a link - scroll down the page to see what they have to know/understand to reach levels 4 and 5 in science.

Kids are also well known for taking the piss. I would have given stupid answers to stupid questions myself at that age. I still would.

Indeed. Everyone knows that Nigel Vodafone invented the telephone.

These were multiple choice tests. Standard practice is to fill in the answers you know and then tick anything for those that you don't. Kids are routinely instructed never to leave an answer blank. Some are even advised to always tick answer A if they don't know!

Funny as they are, these answers are not surprising when viewed in context.
