Most Underrated

Post by RuleBritannia » Wed Mar 10, 2010 8:11 pm

What do you think are the most underrated films of all time?

A few I can think of: Master And Commander, Cast Away, One Night At McCool's, Spirited Away, Man On The Moon, Chasing Amy

It wouldn't surprise me if for you "research" meant reading every Anne Perry novel

I hope this thread bears better fruit than the one on RDF. I've watched about 3 films over the last week from that thread to find out not only were they "under-rated" but they were in fact complete trash.
I guess this thread has Spirited Away and The Commitments so it's off to a good start I guess.
I'm currently watching The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen on recommendation. It just started and it had better be good dammit :lay:

I disagree with most of those:

Cast Away: Nominated for 2 Oscars. Another 11 wins & 21 nominations.

Spirited Away: Won Oscar. Another 35 wins & 19 nominations.

Master And Commander: Won 2 Oscars. Another 17 wins & 57 nominations.

As for Man On The Moon, the vast majority of nominations and awards for acting that Jim Carrey has ever won came from that single film. But I can see the argument, as it is no where near as highly-rated as Master And Commander.

I don't rate films by how many awards they win, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences can kiss my arse, critics aren't as bad but I don't care about their opinions either.

You've never seen The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen :o :o :o :o :o
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Oooh, how I love that movie.

But I'd have to say, on a completely different note, that my favorite under-rated movie is Galaxyquest.
It has Tony Shaloub! and Rainn Wilson! and best of all, tentacle sex! How can you go wrong with tentacle sex?
The green careening planet
spins blindly in the dark
so close to annihilation.
