I severely hope this place never becomes a stronghold of anything, if that's what you're looking for then I doubt you're in the right place. Though I don't post there myself, FRDB is the successor to the old IIDB, and has the II Archives all the way back to 2000. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it. (Er, it isn't on the list in the OP, anyway.)

It's quite heartening to see how many forums there are out there in a list, eh? Thanks for adding yours Bathtub.
I would also add: The Freedom From Religion Foundation Forum to the list. http://ffrf-forum.org/phpbb/
You do have to be an FFRF member to participate in their forum.

I think I've caught up here. If I've missed adding anybody to the OP, please let me know.
BTW, I'm going to turn that list into a webpage RSN, so future contributions will always be solicited.

Good effort and I hope we get some competition we can chew on, but bearing in mind Shrunk's post...hackenslash wrote:We're working on that for the new forum. I've begun spamming theist forums with the url, and I've sent invitations to a few of the chewier ones by PM at RDF.
It might take a little time, but we'll get them coming in. I also fully intend to utilise RDF in whatever form it takes to ensure some flow, and I'm sure others will do the same.
...I feel that the religious will take one look at the name of any of the 'atheist/humanist/rational thinking' sites and will immediately know that they are the 'enemy' and they are 'just another atheist forum' (out of many) - with no celebrity that they can 'attack' or focus upon.Shrunk wrote:No offence to any of my fellow former RDF-ers, and not to appear ungrateful to rationalia for the warm welcome they have afforded us. But the one thing I think I will miss most about the RDF is the steady stream of creotards who provided such valuable springboards for displays of scientific erudition by many of the members. That doesn't seem to happen here, and I'm not sure if it happens much at any of the other options available. My guess is that the Richard Dawkins imprimateur at the top of the page drew them like moths to a flame, and without the good doctor's endorsement we're not likely to replicate that.
Oh, wouldn't it be nice if someone wrote a book on a similar subject to TGD and with a snappy title that would outsell TGD? And then offered their name to an atheist web site?

rationalskepticism.org is doing fine! We just passed the 500 member mark and 10,000 posts today, and that in just three days. In yer face, RD! Thanks to Ratz for helping us rally and move on, and as you can see, some of us pop in here every now and then. Even if we could've done without the drama, things are working out fine now.

Good list Gawd, and good idea.

I think Sam Harris's Reason Project website has a forum too.

H i Charlou.
Is Seth here by any chance? Personally-wrt some earlier replies here-I've never understood why bright people enjoy engaging creotards. I can see it with more reasonable theists, but even that I gave up on as a waste of time long ago. Good to see you again. Like your new avatar, but still think that earlier one was best. Something about your expression in that one.

You might look into talkrational.org if you like threads that springboard off creotards.

Re: Alternatives to look at?
I agree - don't think you'll get that without some positive endorsement from RD who is the definitive YEC-magnet. But there's no reason why he shouldn't positively endorse a like-minded self-sustaining online community just like the popes did for religious orders. It's a tested model. So why not ask him? [Edit:]As a quick addition I'd suggest that if you want to get more out of your YECs you should be a little more welcoming and allow them to set out their stall a bit. They're not all accomplished theologians. Too often I saw them turn up, be tricked into moving from personal statement to 'preaching' and summary banning by over-zealous Moderators. Otherwise you just get like-minded RDF members competing to show off how much they know. Everyone piling in at once. It was a bit like watching male mallards drowning female mallards at mating time. A bit unproductive, no?

Re: Alternatives to look at?
You make a good point, one of the resons I stopped going to RDF was because there were so many people who felt they had to try and sound more intelligent than they were and quite often became pompous for it and looked like idiots because their posts were unnatural and read like a bad script. I guess there was intimidation at play since there were some genuinely daunting intellectuals there but I frequently got annoyed by people using arrogance as a substitute for knowledge.
