This might help. I know Topsy (Flora) had already posted it here, but I have this to hand:

It's not up to us to choose which laws we want to obey. If it were, I'd kill everyone who looked at me cock-eyed! - Rex Banner

You're Richard Dawkins?
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.

thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

This is where the dumbing-down culture has led us ... the youth of today have no attention span. :cranky:

As I see it...
  1. rd.net announced forum would be replaced in 30 days with a discussion area where new topics must be submitted for acceptability and off-topic posts would not be allowed. The then current moderating staff would not be used in the new scheme. They were dismissed with scant thanks.
  2. Critical discussion ensued.
  3. Forum was shut down and brought back up in read-only mode. Critical thread was deleted.
  4. People went elsewhere and expressed anger.
  5. Richard Dawkins used some of those colorful expressions of anger as justification for earlier rd.net actions.
  6. Brains exploded.

Timonen and Chalkley made a total arse up of implementing a change of direction for the forum and ended up turning off the entire website in the face of some relatively mild complaining about it.

Richard took it upon himself to lie about what was said and quote mine an entirely different forum for a couple of quotes to paint everyone as raving lunatics in order to not bring any criticism on the son he never had Josh.

That's exactly what I was after. So you might say things have gone tits up then?

Close enough. Also, the announcement broke a clear promise that forum content would be retained. The forum staff were effectively asked to support a lie, and made this known by publishing on the forum the PM sent to them.

And in addition to the shut-down, there were some other pretty draconian actions, such as deleting users/staff + all their posts, suppressing signatures, making it very difficult to send PMs. And did I mention deleting admin logs to try and cover tracks? :ask:

I was unclear as to what exactly happened with the Rickroll, except that it makes me think that this is all taking place a few years ago.

Actually, if you want someone to present the evidence that Dawkins will listen to, try Daniel Dennett.

I gather he's nice and approachable in this respect. Indeed, one of the ex-RDFers is a drinking buddy of Dennett's.

That's an awesome suggestion. I will copy the e-mail I sent to TAE to him, I think.

Edit: E-mail forwarded

Oh, that was you that posted a verse? Sorry for not acknowledging you as the inspiration for my silliness.

I saw it a few days ago, then when I went back to find it, I didn’t know where it was. I thought it would make for a fun parody on Richard & Co., so I went wild with it.

Thanks for the inspiration. :td: Without your verse (I only saw one verse, was there more?) the idea wouldn’t have crossed my mind.
