The actual Spock would never throw anyone off the ship; might put them in the brig, but not the way it was done in the movie. I hated that they destroyed Vulcan; that was a really big mistake. They used time travel just to trash everything Star Trek is. Kirk acted more like a bully than anything else at times, Scottie was more of a caricature... It was the characters that were badly written, totally out of character.
I disagree. These are younger versions of themselves (by about 10 years or so). They have about a decade to mature into the characterizations you know from TOS. Plus, the TOS movies weren't above caricaturing their own characters -- remember Uhura dancing in STV? Remember the goofball comedy from STIV?
About destroying Vulcan, I had no problem with it. I just hope it is explored at least a little bit in future movies. What it did dramatically for the movie outweighed any nostalgia for the place. Vulcans were always assholes anyway.
Time travel is very tricky to do; and they used it really badly in the movie. Of the time travel episodes, I remember Time's Arrow, a double TNG episode which was excellently made. Or the movie First Contact; there are other examples of good time travel in Star Trek.
I don't think the time travel was half-bad in the movie. I liked how the Narada came back through time and ended up in a different time than Future Spock's ship.
No, the new movie did not feel like Star Trek. It only had the name, but it was not Star Trek.
Meh, we'll have to agree to disagree.

It didn't feel any "less" like Star Trek to me than any of the previous 10 flicks. No offense, but I think you just have a narrow view of what Star Trek is and should be. Many fans said DS9 "wasn't the star Trek they knew!" Same with TNG when it debuted.

I know I did. Then I changed my mind once I got into the Worf character in TNG. Later in DS9 I got to like general/chancellor Martok.
Hehe, we can see that (avatar). Martok rocked.
