And there must be a female Doctor coming up soon; don't recall anything in the regeneration rules that forbid it (are there any regeneration rules?).
No, I'd say it's definitely possible, as Eleven thought he had regenerated into a girl for a moment.

Although you could also reason that he was a bit insane at the time.

I just hope Eleven is different enough from Ten and that Matt Smith makes the role his own. David Tennant didn't achieve success by trying to ape Chris Eccleston, after all.

And, yeah, started watching this when Tom Baker was Four. I think the first Doctor you see always has a warm place in your heart. But I liked Nine and Ten as well.

Shameful might be a better word. I recently went for a drink with a facebook pal (who I know because I wrote an article for his fanzine translating the names of the Mexican characters in The Aztecs (4 episodes, 1964, written by John Lucarotti, probably directed by Warris Hussein).... sob)) and during a lull in the conversation he smiled and said "isn't fandom wonderful!" which I have taken as a warning of sorts. My one comfort is the guy who I was in a band with who actually knows details like who made the fucking sandwiches and what was in them during the filming of blah blah blah... I try to keep it to myself if I can. Or at least try not to be too proud about it.

Hmmmmm.... a whole Doctor Who thread and no-one has said how much they hate Sylvester McCoy yet.
It was Colin Baker that put me off of later Who. Sylvester was an improvement, although, well, not a Hell of a lot of one.

The problem during that time was that the producer (you'll remember his name, which has escaped me for the moment) had just stayed on too long and the whole thing was getting stale. Plus, everyone was wearing costumes instead of just clothes.

I think Sylvester did pretty well with what he was given.

I agree with darker and nastier, but speaking as a heterosexual, I liked the gay metaphor. Shakes up people over here.

John Nathan Turner - indeed, a real twat's twat, the sort of twat that other twats look at and say 'what a twat' ...and the reson why Matthew Waterhouse ended up playing Adric (he had a nice bum apparently). I must admit I couldn't stand Colin Baker at first but I ended up warming to the man and he became one of my favourites (the coat was a terrible idea, but I liked the pomposity and occasional moment where it was obvious he wanted to punch someone), same with McCoy really - I never really like Ace too much, but there was still some great episodes in there (Ghostlight for one) if ONLY they hadn't virtually drowned out the dialogue by having that twatty incidental music from er.... Mark Ayers I think (?) - constant drone of Butlin's Human League Bontempi toss with an extra helping of 1980s. I know what you mean though by stale... I'd disagree in that there were some great stories fighting to get out but they really fucked them up. Each Doctor had a few clinkers inevitably but at least a shite Tom Baker (for example) would still have something in its favour.

I just mentioned Sylvester McCoy as he always seems to be the one everybody starts slagging off after about eight posts in a thread like this. Personally I thought he had a lot of character .
