Very cool!
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

Scream yellow peril all you want, we've already made it over the globe.

Oh God, when will it end?
"I'm awake in my bunk,
All sleep's gone away.
My crew's on alert-
To fly a mission today!"

"Two-thirty a.m.,
There's a knock on the door.
The orderly enters,
We've heard this before.

"What's he thinking, I wonder,
As he calls men out to fly,
Knowing that some
Are being called out to die.

"I grab up my gear
And head for the mess.
Not hungry, but better
Eat something, I guess.

"I hope for the best
As the cook rattles his pans.
But, oh no, no luck
It's powdered eggs again."

"The big map at briefing
Reveals at a glance,
We're going deep into Reichsland.
Fighters expected, flak will be intense."

"I climb into the truck
For the ride to the plane.
The ground crew has her
In great shape again."

"My intercom crackles,
'Pilot to all,
Get in take-off position,
We're ready to roll.'

"Lift, baby, lift, up, up.
Ah, breathe a bit more at ease.
The gear's up and locked,
And we're over the trees."

"Ten thousand feet,
In formation flight,
Twenty-one B-24s
A beautiful sight

"Twenty thousand feet.
Flying right down the track.
Straight and level on the bomb run,
Here comes the flak."

"Ten minutes of hell's fury,
There's a plane down in flames.
We've got one engine out, but three
Should get us home again.

"Mark, enemy fighters,
MEs at six o'clock high.
Here come our Mustangs
To drive them out of the sky."

"The bombs were on target,
We did the job right.
I see the white cliffs of Dover,
We're back from the fight

"Touch down at the air base
With a squeal of the brakes.
There's the Red Cross to greet us
With coffee and cakes."

"So back to the hut,
We're on alert again.
When will it be over,
Oh God, when will it end?"

Wilbur Stites was a left waist gunner on a B-24 bomber of the 453rd. 1991.

(I don't know if Wilbur was an atheist or not, btw.)

In Memory of Atheists in Foxholes.
The memorial is very thoughtful gesture and an important consciousness raiser.

Did Bush really say that atheists shouldn't be considered US citizens? Is there no end to the mans twattiness?

What a lovely memorial, as it should be :td:
