Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
And of course, if this place finds itself playing host to a membership of 85,000, it's going to need some serious attention to the matter of [1] raising funds to support that level of membership, and [2] finding a server and software solution that can cope. Though the Ratz admin squad would probably apply proper empiricism to the matter of finding such a solution, and check out solutions that have demonstrably worked elsewhere before announcing a migration.

Why the hell are people deleting their own posts? They might as well say Josh was right.
Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
Oh come on guys...
I understand your decision but couldn't you wait with the deletion until I've backed up all the posts...

All,
Just to let you know I have made the migration and stand in support of the revolt.
What happened, because Richard Dawkins delegated authority, ultimately becomes his choice. When one places others in positions of authority and they act you take responsibility for their acts.
The ONLY means by which Richard Dawkins can repair the carnage is to dismiss those which took these actions and restore the forum. Failure to do so makes Richard Dawkins a hypocrite and an elitist bastard, since the actions of his subordinates are hypocritical and in diametric opposition to the alleged reason the Richard Dawkins Foundation exists.
I say fuck 'em and feed 'em fish heads.

We are only a small village!
A few hundred, fine, but otherwise...
How would this 'small village' cope with expansion to a small town?
Since there seems to be no other atheist oriented site (that I know of!) that has an influx of RDF refugees to any great degree, it may be that 'greatness could be thrust upon us'.
With this possibility in mind, it might be worth considering a plan of action for the future, e.g. duplicate the RDF format to attract the Creationists, Fundies, the undecided and those who need support, meanwhile keeping the 'more interesting' sectionsof Ratz intact. If this course of action is feasible, I'm sure many of us would contribute to it's viability. (Or even start another site specifically to attract RDF refugees.)
But all that might be just my withdrawal symptoms talking. (All my 2630 posts were for fucking nothing. :pissed: )
But at the moment there is NO central meeting point for all those disowned 85,000, whether they were just 'lookers-on' or active...
Perhaps this could be a separate thread open to discussion and suggestions, because in the light of the RDF shut-down things must surely change.
Think positive!

We have never been big on attracting then debating fundies, and my personal preference is to leave that side of things to somewhere else...
But there will indeed be debate and discussion, and I am certain that we can think our way to an optimal future...

Ah, got in. RD is listed as logged in, although you need mod privileges to see this. Apparently Lavrenti Beria Josh Timonen hasn't revoked all the privileges yet.

The forum is accessible for me again. But what with the general reduction in posts noted by CJ, and the loss of some of RD's post confirmed by by InYourFaceNewYorker ...

No worries Jim, you can carry on chatting in the pub, and just feed them to me. :twisted:JimC wrote:We have never been big on attracting then debating fundies, and my personal preference is to leave that side of things to somewhere else...

Don;t worry. All you've lost is a few thousand variances on the theme" Stay on topic" and "Don't be naughty", and my own person favourite "thread merged"life wrote:Oh come on guys...

Forums are interesting and if you don't agree, you can fuck off.
Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
Not only is the content lost but also the context as the threads are still there but single posts missing in between, makes most of it unreadableIlovelucy wrote:Don;t worry. There's around 50k posts missing now and the number is increasing..

Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
That just about sums it up. If someone (guess who) isn't sacked over this, then Richard Dawkins is effectively endorsing the actions that were taken.theropod wrote:All,

Of course, they came to RDF as moths to a flame, with RD's name inflaming their desire to be martyrs for the cause...Calilasseia wrote:No worries Jim, you can carry on chatting in the pub, and just feed them to me. :twisted:JimC wrote:We have never been big on attracting then debating fundies, and my personal preference is to leave that side of things to somewhere else...
Here, we have built it, but I doubt they'll come...

WTWTWTF?
I go away for three days on the biggest drinking session I've been on in ages and the whole world has gone crazy.
What has happened with RDF?
Who is watching us?
Has Lozzer been arrested yet?

Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
Looking at the RDF member listed, sorted in decreasing post order: All posts in the staff area appear to have been deleted.
That may account for most of the discrepancy that CJ noted.
