Top 10 Scientists of the 20th Century?
Re: Top 10 Scientists of the 20th Century?
In that case I retract my Freud nomination. I believe that psychology must be there, somehow, represented, but I accept that Freud shouldn't be the representative.

Definitely! That's why I added Skinner, Herrnstein and Baum who are, in my opinion, the greatest psychologists of the 20th centurySisifo wrote:In that case I retract my Freud nomination. But on top of them, we could add:
Aaron Beck
Hans Eysenck
Richard Lazarus
I'm sure there are more but I tend to shy away from the cognitive area of psychology. If Lazar drops by here he might be able to add some more there. (And if anyone suggests Pinker, then I'm going to have another little rant like I did with Freud

They managed to find 3 scientists from past or present who believe(d) in a blank slate?! Are you sure they didn't just make up some names to make it seem like Pinker wasn't just arguing with himself?..Lazar wrote:oh and there is this guy called Pinker, he is really important for waging a war against those idiots scientists who believe in a blank slate.....all three of them.

Re: Top 10 Scientists of the 20th Century?
oh shit has anyone told tptexra (or whatever where we are).....I miss being called a child killer because I know the difference between psychology and psychiatry.
Re: Top 10 Scientists of the 20th Century?
Oh yeah we could get him back over here where we can discuss at lengths the fact that psychology has moved on from the 60s, and one person's non-peer reviewed book is not the be-all and end-all of psychology as a field! Also, drugs melt your brain, they don't cure it.Lazar wrote:oh shit has anyone told tptexra (or whatever where we are).....I miss being called a child killer because I know the difference between psychology and psychiatry.
...I think I've just summarised and rebuffed all of his arguments. Is there any point inviting him now?

No how do you account for the fact that some psychiatrists get free pens off drug companies.... :twisted:Mr.Samsa wrote:Oh yeah we could get him back over here where we can discuss at lengths the fact that psychology has moved on from the 60s, and one person's non-peer reviewed book is not the be-all and end-all of psychology as a field! I made an unforgivable omission in mine, of Marie Curie, her husband Pierre, and all the little Curie's too. An exceptional woman and in adverse times too, but without any inference of so-opinionated feminism causes. I think Albert Einstein was reported to have stated she was a rare one not affected by her fame.
