Suggestions please

Post by sifaka » Wed Feb 24, 2010 2:47 am

Hi everyone.

Here's the deal:

I'm going to see Dawkins on the 13th of March in Auckland.Don't know if anyone else is going, I think Kiwi over on RDF was going too but I can't seem to find him here.

Anyhoo, after the deplorable events of yesterday's great bankruptcy, I would like to make a point, and let him know how I feel about the whole deal, especially the callous way in which the mods have been treated.

Here's my problem, I'm rather shy and not at all outspoken. Any suggestions?

Band up with some of the group from this forum that will be there - power in numbers you know. I think some plans to protest are being bandied about already. Where are the aussie's to answer this nice lass?

You could question him calmly as to whether he is aware that Josh's actions have ruined his forum community and hand him a piece of paper with a link this insightful blog post: http://realityismyreligion.wordpress.co ... open-soon/ (maybe tiny URL it first). I'm almost convinced he is naive to the poor management and is waiting for someone to tell him how it is. But if he is aware then there's no much you can say, other than you reject him as a good public example for Atheists.

You may not get an opportunity to speak to him for long, so perhaps if you are merely shaking his hand you could hand him a small letter which, given his TV personality, I'm sure he'd read.

If he wasn't involved in the community, and has never been an active internet user, he might fail to understand the significance of how much Josh's actions have damaged his community.

Thank you it's a great idea!

If there's going to be any sort of Q&A, I would be less inclined to protest, and more inclined to put Richard on the spot.

Can someone make sure this is on the stage?

Yes, there will be Q&A, I was thinking about putting him on the spot, but as I said I'm rather shy, and I tend to lose my English when I panic. I might try to ask him if he is at least aware of what's been going on with the forum.
Any contribution from you would be greatly appreciated hack! :td:

Well, if I were there, I would certainly not be backward about coming forward. Not exactly known as a shrinking violet.

I'd ask something like:

'Would you care to comment on the abandonment of the 85,000 members of your forum?'

You can manage 15 words, can't you?

I'd ask:

"Why have you placed so much trust in an individual, whose actions have inflicted more damage upon your aims for the future than all the planet's creationists put together?"
