No, no, no and again no. That is the worst advice ever. Soul/Jazz have to sung in a certain type of way. Its not like punk music.
Did Andrew Strong sing Irish-y when singing soul?
Do the Drop Kick Murphys sing American-y when singing Irish ballads?
Does Byork sing with any semblace of any recognisable accent when she sings whatever it is she sings?
Cockney jazz is the worst thing I can think of besides Cork reggae.
Libertarianism: The belief that out of all the terrible things governments can do, helping people is the absolute worst.

But so is Keith Richards and everyone seems to think he's great. My only criticism of Amy is that she really does need to get herself on a serious pie-eating regime.
If Keef had had a habit of attacking people while stoned, opinions might be otherwise. I don't remember Grace Slick receiving such vitriol either. It is not a gender thing but a behaviour thing.
I was thinking more of a generation thing than a gender thing, but good point. Er... so who did she attack exactly? I think I missed that one.

Bollocks A person should sing in the voice god gave them (god bless Lilly Allen). If their particular accent isn't ordinarily associated with a certain music style, tough shit Something new will then be created, something fresh, unique. Sinead O'Connor recorded an disc of Reggae songs, for instance, and it's one of the most amazing albums I've ever heard
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But the thing is, if she sings with an English accent and is true to herself, she may just find a style of music that fits it - she won't be singing faux jazz or soul, she won't be a fake. I don't care if she sings English folk songs - at least she will be true.
Whether there is accent to singing or not, I only like singing that sounds like the way someone might talk. I really don't like operatic singing; imagine if people talked like that. (And don't get me started on operatic lyrics. :pissed: ). Neither do I like that waily thing that Dolores O'Riordan does.

Thank you for that horrible mental image.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

She has a Ballybricken accent, the waily thing is better.

Actually, I like her regular singing with accent - "the mother of your CHOILD" . It's the gawdforsaken wailing that grates on me.

Trust me, that accent is grating, her original home is only about 4 miles away from me.

In my house, we have only ever said 'CHOILD!' for the last 16 years (I Can't Be With You). Truly, they had some excellent songs.
Amy Winehouse was booed and jeered during a concert in Serbia’s capital as she stumbled onto the stage, mumbled through her songs and wandered off.
Serbian media described the concert late Saturday kicking off her European tour before about 20,000 fans as a “scandal” and a “disaster.” The Blic daily said the concert was “the worst in the history of Belgrade.”
