The Lovely Bones - Movie (Don't read all if endings matter)

Methinks this'll be a short thread on this forum, but as I rarely see movies for free before they’re released, I'm sharing...

Spoiler:  Do not read the final paragraph if you care about not knowing certain aspects of the plot, but my bottom line here is to save your money and wait for DVD release...  it's worth seeing at home from my perspective, just 'cause it's Peter Jackson and for Tucci's villain, who was almost as good as Phillip Seymour Hoffman in MI III, IMHO - both are subdued and credibly nasty.  Generally, it was more trite and less believicable than Jackson's other fantasies and worth neither the theatre trip nor the admission price in my view, and I had been looking forward to a Jackson film on (well, anything at all, but especially) something he's not really tackled before.

The depiction of all but the (lol) 'here and now' was way too new-agey for me and cheap schmaltz / sentimentality was all I got here (probably unsurprising, though I kind’a liked how ‘transport’ to the 'dark side' was portrayed in "Ghost").  The script seemed mediocre and the acting so-so overall - though better than I could do, of course - but nothing brought me into the film in any emotional way. I love it when I'm pulled in to a movie. Oh... and as a potential buyer of a RED camera ('body' only), I was pleased to see yet another flick shot with this system.

Spoiler (final warning):  The demise of the villain seemed especially cheesy, with an icicle and an unfenced parking lot / cliff combination that's completely unreal for any First World country at least.  I'm surprised that something more credible wasn't chosen for this - it seems to me that something better would have been easy to write, even if it's like this in the book (dunno about the book, but I wouldn't get it now anyway).  And the baseball bat / running scene with Wahberg and Weisz was another particular low point (there were a few).  Again... overall, I'd say DVD/home theatre or possibly avoid completely and spend ~3 hours doing something else.

Peter Jackson sucks the big one on this movie. I couldn't finish watching it, it was really bad. What Dreams May Come was better, and that was a pretty lame movie too. (Same theme, only instead of being murdered the woman kills herself through suicide)

I read the original book and the point about the ice was that they discussed (before she got pwnt IRL) what the perfect murder tool was, and she said ice.
Or something.

Still, it was a whole bunch of new-age claptrap anyway.
