Homeopathy
This made me giggle like a schoolgirl
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

It's funny because it is exactly what they do argue. Fortunately though, the bullshit has been diluted 200 times, so you can no longer smell it!

Re: Homeopathy
You wanna hear something peculiar? I ran out of the pills my doctor prescribed to treat my gout. He'd also recently given me a prescription, since I can't seem to shake the gout, of another pill that's meant to prevent it from coming on in the first place. Only problem is, the side effects of that pill were worse than the malady it was intended to prevent. So I stopped taking that. Now, my mum had given me a homeopathic gout remedy for Christmas. She's really into that shit, in pretty deep in fact. Well, I thanked her for it at the time, but almost threw it away when I got home. I didn't have the heart to do that, though, to throw away a gift. So anyway, now that I was out of my other pills, I decided to give this shit a try for the hell of it. Not expecting it to work at all. Not expecting it to do a goddamn thing. Except, you know what? It did work
And I don't think it was the placebo effect either, cuz I really did not think it was gonna do anything

I wondered about that. Was gonna ask my doctor next time I saw him if, left untreated, the gout would simply go away on its ownXamonas Chegwé wrote: Gout is a disease that comes and goes naturally. The woo-pills probably just got lucky with their timing is all.

Re: Homeopathy
I have had occasional bouts. Often 3 or 4 attacks, lasting a week or so each and separated by a couple of months each time. Then nothing for a year or more. It hasn't been really bad in my case - except once - so I never bothered the doctor with it - especially since there is little they can do. I knew someone that used to get it much more often, but even he would have months at a time with no attacks.tattuchu wrote:I wondered about that. Re: Homeopathy
I'm curious about something called "Milk Thistle" which is used as an antidote for the deadly poison, amatoxin. Care to offer some comments about this?

Re: Homeopathy
Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) is a plant that is known to have beneficial effects on liver function, especially in cases of poisoning with liver-toxic chemicals. Not all research has been conclusive and (as is always the case with 'folk remedies') there are many spurious reports around.maiforpeace wrote:I'm curious about something called "Milk Thistle" which is used as an antidote for the deadly poison, amatoxin. It is important to note that I am referring only to Milk Thistle as an herbal treatment containing actual plant matter, NOT any homeopathic version. Homeopathic preparations of Silybum marianum are as useless as any other hoemopathic 'remedies'. Homeopathy involves repeatedly diluting substances in water until there is none of the active ingredient left! Homeopathy is pure woo and bullshit.
