Biology help

Post by Chinaski » Fri Jan 08, 2010 3:58 pm

Much as I hate bothering other people with my academic problems, I'm in need of help for this particular biology assignment, so I can get it out of the way and focus on my essays on epistemology and English. I know that there are a couple of biology freaks on here, and any small indication of what I should be talking about (given as I don't know shit about this stuff) would be wonderful and make me love you forever.

1. Explain the use of 2 enzymes in biotechnology.

2. Outline the process of gene therapy using a named example.

3. Outline the differences between the behaviour of the chromosomes in mitosis and meiosis. In your answer, draw examples of dividing cells in metaphase I of meiosis and metaphase of mitosis.

4. Outline the processes of transcription and translation to form a polypeptide chain.

5. Explain oxidative phosphorylation in terms of chemiosmosis. Be sure to inculde the roles of NADH/ FADH2, electrons, oxygen, ATY synthase, and protons in your answer.

6. Explain the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis, including cyclic and noncyclic photophosphorylation. Be sure to inlude the terms photosystem, photolysis, NADP+, NADPH, protons and ATP in your answer.

Thanks!

I could provide you with all of the answers with 20 minutes browsing wikipedia. But I believe that the idea is for you to actually learn this stuff, so I am going to let you browse wiki yourself, sorry. :dono:

Every question has a few juicy keywords you can use in wiki or google. The truth is out there.

Our answers would probably be about as useful as dog-sick anyway.

I will happily proofread your answers if you like, once you've done the bloody work!

Devogue, that pathway is BEAUTIFUL, and it is a critical point in the metabolism of carbohydrates, responsible for the conversion of the glucose that is produced by the breakdown of other sugars into a chain of intermediates which are used to synthesize amino acids and lipids, and also generate ATP, which is the energy currency of the cell.

Disclaimer - The aforementioned opinion may be because I meet all the criteria you've mentioned to be able to appreciate this... :hehe:

Shit man, thanks a lot! Biology is my weakest subject and I need to spend hours repeating the information just to make it stick.

Like that goddamm chart that Feck posted.
