I suggest if you're interested in why people are hating on a person you do your own homework about that person and not be throwing your opinion in with others based solely on what they think. Just a thought.
Why do homework when you could plagiarize others'? c:
Besides, if the majority of people hate him, then that most likely means I would, too. So I might just end up with the same result; hatred.

re Red Katie's attack ... I know what our guidelines are and I agree with them. I think having a go at RK for an insulting attack is a bit rich (irony factor) in a thread with the title this one has. Just a thought.

It should be a time out offence to wind up someone who is easy to wind up!

(and I think that is endearing by the way Red, before you hit me!)

The difference is that our guidelines apply only to our members. We're free to bitch at/about anyone else. I don't think it matters what the nature of the thread is in regards to sticking to the rules in general.

The first few replies here reminded me of the hate mail spewed about R. Dawkins. Regardless of who they are aimed at or which group sends them they don't really float my boat. I wouldn't lock anyone up over it, the religious nut jobs or atheist ones - it just doesn't demonstrate clear thinking.
Not that I would have any objection to an informative thread stating why the world is likely to be better without a right winger fascist.
I accept I'm a boring member!

You guys are right, but it is worth remembering the context and the audience here. I doubt people would be comfortable suggesting they are happy someone is about to expire in a more 'generic' forum. We say things here knowing what the audience is, that most of us are like minded and have a lot of views and attitudes in common. That means we can say things which to an outside observer might seem extreme or offensive but in the context of our lot is perhaps, putting it kindly, just a 'bit over the top'.
Just my take on it.

I think this effect is very real but applies no less to fundy sites spewing similar stuff. Each to their own but like I said, it doesn't float my boat - I wouldn't take it seriously enough to conclude those doing it are truly maniacal but I apply the same caution when viewing extreme material from elsewhere too.

Well that's the point isn't it? We all say things when we are with friends we would not dream of saying, say at work. We are always aware of our audience I would have thought and what is and isn't acceptable in that context.

I don't think people need to be taken out back and shot for it (it being discussing murdering those with opposing views or wishing they were skinned and rolled in salt!), here or the fundies - just doesn't really appeal to me personally. I guess I have found (generally in life not Ratz centred) that those who engage in it are also those who condemn others for it, even justify death wishes because it's what the 'they' do. I guess that's why I'm loathed to join in.
It's just not my bag.
