I am even more flabbergasted by the fact that Tony Blair just recently stated hat he would have gone to war with Iraq with no evidence of weapons of mass destruction. What an idiot. Not only that, we are being further punished here in the US, as he's now teaching at Yale. I guess that must be our punishment for foisting Bush on the world for eight years.Rum wrote:Mai, To me it was like a petulant child striking out in any direction and randomly because it was angry and hurt. That was scary to me. I agree with you about where the real anxiety should be focused. The link between 9/11 and Iraq did not exist and not only did Bush know that, he didn't care. The invasion was an ill thought out reckless, stupid and damaging strategy. Above all - unforgivably - it was an unintelligent plan. I still remain genuinely flabbergasted.maiforpeace wrote:
I remember exactly where I was when it happened, and the spectacle and gravity of the horror of it was compelling. I was glued to the TV like everyone else around the world.
But I think I felt more cold dread and horror right before we went to war with Iraq. I didn't have time to dread 9/11 it was such a surprise, and, we had no idea what the full effect of it would be as the days unfolded. War, on the other hand I had had experience with. And then, we got to hear all the news leading up to war. I literally had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach right before we declared war. It felt like a gang rape by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, Rice, Blair...
Going to war was the event in this decade that affected me the most. Unfortunately, it still affects us and is not past.

Doesn't that depend on civilization surviving that long?Cartman wrote:9/11 was amazing. I think it's the only thing in my life that people 1,000 years from now will know about.

I bloody can! I was supposed to be heading down to Kent that day.Ace wrote:...Can't remember where I was when I first heard about the london bombings.
It's a good job I had the telly on while I was packing, otherwise I probably would have left anyway, only to end up totally buggered when I got down to Euston to find there was no tube going anywhere.
Luckily, since the Victoria Line wasn't directly affected, they were able to re-open it fairly swiftly and I travelled down the next day.

My favorite things over the last ten years were getting my own apartments, and enjoying the company of two very friendly cats. Sadly, I lost the first one way too soon, but I hope to have my current cat into the next into the decade.
I can't forget hooking up with local atheist and skeptical groups in the US. It was refreshing to know that I wasn't alone in the Chicago area.
Hopefully in the next decade I'll be able to travel to the UK and meet some fellow skeptics.

A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.
