there are some very good films that have come out of japan, korea and hong kong (tartan and highland film companies are the best know). titles include 'old boy', 'audition' and 'battle royale'. also there is a film based on a book that was written by an italain who observed the mob in italy that is good.
also french film called 'Angle A' that is defo worth a watch.

) really kicked my ass, not because of the quality of acting or directing (mediocre, not really bad), but because it's based on a true story. The S. Korean gov't assembled a squad of criminals on death row, sequestered them on an island, trained them to be a crack commando team focused on assassinating then-N. Korean leader, Kim Il Sung, etc. I freakin' loved it. You can find it with Engrishee subs.
