Your favourite movie star of all time

Post by Rum » Wed Nov 25, 2009 7:25 am

The word 'star' is much overused these days. 'Celebrity' is also much overused and hollow - seen by mindless millions as an end in itself it seems to me. But there have been giants. Who are your favourites and why?

I think mine is Paul Newman because not only did he make it as a 'handsome leading man', but he transcended that and became something more both in cinema and in public life.

Marilyn Chambers Clint Eastwood, probably because I was a gullible adolescent when I saw those spaghetti westerns. I didn't care much for the Dirty Harry series or the string of stink-bombs that followed, but now he's back on track, it seems.

I can't choose just one. I have to pick a male and a female.

Robert Redford and Audrey Hepburn.

I don't really have one either - or at least I couldn't restrict myself to just one.

But Bogie was definitely a cut above most of the rest. :levi:

I don't have one as such. I would not go to see a film, just because "X" was in it, nor does one actor/actress dominate my favourite film choices.

That's all I need to hear from a young'un! Why, back in th' day, men were men and made real movies that meant sump'n! Not like that cinematic diarrhea I tried to watch yestiddy night...eh...wuzzit...well, whatever the title was. Back when I was your age, I could lift the front end of a '48 Plymouth up over mah head with one arm tied behind...mah...eh...dang, what were we talkin' 'bout?...Anyway, them damn Nazis ain't ever gone make a movie as good as...eh...that feller...you know who I mean. The one who always wears a hat....dadblame, what's his name, again? Well, what I'm gettin' at is that if you don't keep a-greasin' the bearings on that tractor, you're just askin' fer trouble come time to do th' spring plowing! Now, you can say all you want about them new-fangled John Deere contraptions, but I'll bet my Massey-Ferguson kin...eh...make a better movie than you an' all yer...yer...Wait a minute. I think I forgot t' take mah pills. What time is it? Who are you, anyway? How did you get in here? Did you wipe your feet? Well, sit over there and be quiet while the TV warms up. Mah show is fixin' t' start....
