Inspired by the Rings of Earth thread.
Billions of times the living space of Earth, ALL the energy of the sun available for use. And just three meters from "outer space". What's not to love.

Actually, you harvest the Ort Cloud for material to make the Sphere. Don't want any loose change rattling around the system when you're done, now do you? Same with all the other planets.

I would say Class II impossibility*. We would need the mass/energy of several stars for this to work.
*Class I is not with current tech but probably within the next century.
Class II is not with current tech but not against the laws of physics, as we understand them.
Class III is against the laws of physics, as we understand them.

I won't list all the Class II's that are no longer impossible.

Very true. And you could put them in and allow people to stroll over infinity.
It would also be easy to put observatories on the outside of the sphere, so they could be in a light-free environment on a stable base with no atmosphere in the way.

3 m thick is going to provide no effective gravity; we all going to simply be in orbit about the sun. Could be a problem for the lifestlye to which we've become accustomed, ie my martini would float away.
Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

Ah, but we'd just have artificial gravity. So, that would be no problem. Spin would be a problem as the gravity would vary from the "equator" to the "poles". (Which wouldn't be a bad idea, but controlling the gravity locally would be much more advantageous.)

This is going to come as a shock to you, Feck, but there are
machines to suck dirt off floors. No really there are!
I've seen one with my very own eyes!
