Absolutely, there are certain sports where it is expected that you act like an honourable person, not just golf but also in snooker where it is common to see a player point out where they made an error or infringed upon a rule, at first glance it seems to be a team v individual thing but boxers often cheat and occasionally teams own up to wrong doing (Wenger for Arsenal in '99, even though it pains me to say it) Over the past few years I have become more and more disillusioned with football and this is another nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned. And snooker (unlike golf) is most definitely a "working-class" game, giving the lie to any suggestion that "fair play" is just some outdated notion associated with wealthy amateurism.
The team v. individual aspect is an interesting one. There's more acceptance of cheating in team sports I think - you can always use the excuse that you did it for your team-mates, etc. But it basically comes down to the culture of the sport. Cricket was another sport that used to have a very high premium on player conduct and honesty, but that seems to have been gradually eroded as more and more money came into it. Athletics - basically an individual sport - has been corrupt for decades.

Man. U. are 4-1 up away to Portsmouth. Not news in itself. Nor is the fact that Wayne Rooney has scored a hat-trick. The story is that Ryan Giggs just scored for Utd., already having two assists.
He is 36 tomorrow, and has been playing for Man. Utd. for ever. Some people have all the luck.
