To get this in perspective... they are arbitration systems. People are free to use other forms of arbitration too (such as counseling or the Jewish courts). They are only binding because the people agree in advance that they will accept the outcome. They don't have to use arbitration if they don't want to (leaving aside cultural pressure).

I don't agree we should have it, but it is entirely voluntary for the participants.
