Would you?

Post by Lozzer » Fri Oct 09, 2009 5:00 pm

Would any of you ever consider turning your back on every ideology and ideal you hold dear in a bid for power and money? I've been thinking recently how I could possibly get myself on the Tory bandwagon. This country seems to enjoy seeing young people talk triumphantly of Tory policies and all that rubbish. But I seriously believe I could do, I think I could pull it off given the opportunity. Sure I'd be disregarding all that I consider right, but it would be incredibly beneficial in terms of making connections and gaining affluence.

I already know what most people in this country want. They're reactionaries and they're begging for someone to scream out in anger for them. They want national service, corporal punishment, an end to immigration etc. If I were to put down a box in a high-street and stand upon it with a microphone in hand spouting the ad vocation of this right-wing nonesuch do you think people would crowd around and listen to me?
If I were to demonstrate the same passion for conservatism as I do liberalism do you think I'd have more people on my side?

I think I could even go as far to say I could try and lead some black shirts. Is this incredibly evil? Of course, but its logical.

I'm not much of intellectual but the torys seem to have good policies. Those smug children with their learning allowance in their own income families, Blagh. I don't care about anything else that's reason enough to vote for them. I am however 11months to young to vote at the present time.

I don't actually think there are many people who coldly and calculatingly go for power for its own sake in a way that consciously contradicts their beliefs. Sure there will be a few, but as a rule they are motivated by beliefs - in the first instance in any case. Living one's life contrary to all one's beliefs and values would be hard work and require such a degree of 'sociopathic' action that I suspect most of us would implode.

What is clear though is that when people achieve power their values change more frequently than not. The ends justifies the means more and more frequently and expedience starts to rule. Before you know it you have sold out.

Just think Lozzer. You have successfully clawed your way up the greasy pole of the Conservative Party hierarchy and, having been swept to a record landslide victory in the Grantham East bi-election, are now tipped as the country's youngest ever PM.

... and then someone sends a copy of this thread to the Guardian!! :hehe:

I think I'm sociopathic enough to do so.

I had an offer to switch sides one time. I would have been very, very well off. I didn't consider it for more than a few seconds.
