Drums keep poundin a rhythym to the brain
laigadadeee laigadadaa

Charleston was once a rage aha
history has banned that stage aha
the mini skirts' the current thing aha
Teenie Bopper is our new born king aha
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on

Drums keep poundin a rhythym to the brain
laigadadeee laigadadaa

Grocery store is a super mart aha
Little girls still break their hearts aha
Men still keep on marching off the war
Electrically they keep their base ball score
And the beat goes on
And the beat goes on

Drums keep poundin a rhythym to the brain
laigadadeee ligadadaa

I downloaded the whole Beatles discography a few days ago (note to law enforcers:- I have bought all their albums over the years, some several times!).

I listened to the early LPs although I know them inside out 'cos I was around and a huge fan (of course). Sgt Peppers I can still sing from memory from the start to the finish..sad but true.

..anyway - I was struck by the simplicity and the reality basic nature of their lyrics when they started out in 62/3 and how astonishingly quickly they transformed to a level of sophistication, by the standards of the time, to where they ended up. Here are two sets of lyrics separated by only three years.

Ask Me Why (1963)

I love you,
'Cause you tell me things I want to know,
And it's true that it really only goes to show
That I know that I-I-I-I should never, never, never be blue.

Now you're mine,
My happiness still makes me cry.
And in time you'll understand the reasons why
If I cry it's not because I'm sad
But you're the only love that I've ever had.

Within you Without you (1967)

We were talking - about the space between us all
And the people - who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth - then it’s far too late - when they pass away.

We were talking - about the love we all could share - when we find it
To try our best to hold it there - with our love
With our love - we could save the world - if they only knew.

Try to realize it's all within yourself
No-one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small,
And life flows on within you and without you.

Hi De Hi, Hi De Ho - Kool & The Gang

Hi de ho, baby, so long
(She don't love me no more)

(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
This is the way the song goes
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
That's what she said to me

(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
This is the way my love goes
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
She wasn't meant for me

One night while sitting all alone
I heard a ringing on the phone
So sweet and gentle as she could be
These are the words that she said to me

She said, "Baby, I'm sorry
Darlin', I'm leavin'
Sugar, I can't take it
Sweetheart, it's all over", I say

(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
This is the way the song goes
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
That's what she said to me

(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
Hmmm, what a surprise
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
It just about blew my mind

Now that I'm sitting all alone
Can't shake this feeling even thought she's gone
They say that memories fade in time
The words she said to me still linger in my mind

She said, "Baby, I'm sorry
Darlin', I'm leavin'
Sugar, I can't take it
Sweetheart, it's all over", I say

(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
This is the way the song goes
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
That's what she said to me

(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
This is the way my love goes
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
She wasn't meant for me

Cause I got my life to live
(I got my life to live)
I got so much to give
(So much to give)

Not gonna let this thing take me
(I gotta keep on movin')
I gotta keep on movin' and groovin'
So I can get back in the groove
(She don't love me no more)

(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
This is the way the song goes
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
That's what she said to me

(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
This is the way my love goes
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
She wasn't meant for me

(She don't love me no more)
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
She's gone
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
She's out of my life

(She don't love me no more)
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
She's gone
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
So long baby

(She don't love me no more)
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
Why you wanna do that to me?
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
You hurt me so bad

(She don't love me no more)
(Hi de hi, hi de ho)
Why you wanna do that to me?

Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She goes downstairs to the kitchen clutching her handkerchief
Quietly turning the backdoor key
Stepping outside she is free.

She (We gave her most of our lives)
is leaving (Sacrificed most of our lives)
home (We gave her everything money could buy)
She's leaving home after living alone
For so many years. Bye, bye

Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband Daddy our baby's gone
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly
How could she do this to me.

She (We never thought of ourselves)
is leaving (Never a thought for ourselves)
home (We struggled hard all our lives to get by)
She's leaving home after living alone
For so many years. Bye, bye

Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Meeting a man from the motor trade.

She (What did we do that was wrong)
is having (We didn't know it was wrong)
fun (Fun is the one thing that money can't buy)
Something inside that was always denied
For so many years. Bye, bye
She's leaving home. Bye, bye

Early Morning Rain - Gordon Lightfoot (a different version than normal - ignore the last minute ):

http://video.yahoo.com/watch/904131/3599519
In the early morning rain
With a dollar in my hand
With an achin' in my heart
And my pockets full of sand
I'm a long way from home
And I miss my loved ones so
In the early morning rain
With no place to go
Out on runway number nine
Big seven-o-seven set to go
But I'm stuck here in the grass
Where the cold wind blows
Now the liquor tasted good
And the women all were fast
Well there she goes my friend
Well she's rollin' down at last

Hear the mighty engines roar
See the silver bird on high
She's away and westward bound
Far above the clouds shell fly
Where the mornin' rain don't fall
And the sun always shines
Shell be flyin' o'er my home
In about three hours time

This old airport's got me down
It's no earthly good to me
cause I'm stuck here on the ground
As cold and drunk as I can be
You can't jump a jet plane
Like you can a freight train
So I'd best be on my way
In the early morning rain
You can't jump a jet plane
Like you can a freight train
So I'd best be on my way
In the early morning rain

Eels - Last Stop This Town

You're dead but the world keeps spinning
Take a spin through the world you left
It's getting dark a little too early
Are you missing the dearly bereft?

Taking flight and you could be
Here tomorrow
Taking flight, well, you could get
Here tonight

I'm gonna fly on down for the
Last stop to this town
What?
I'm gonna fly on down then fly away
Well, alright

Get down

Taking a spin through the neighborhood
The neighbors scream
Whatchya talkin' bout?
'cause they don't know how to
Let you in
And i can't let you out

What if i was not your only friend
In this world
Can you take me where you're going
If you're never coming back

I'm gonna fly on down for the
Last stop to this town
I'm gonna fly on down
Then fly away on my way

Get down

Why don't we take a ride
Away up high
Through the neighborhood
Up over the billboards and the factories
And smoke

I'm gonna fly on down for the
Last stop to this town
Yeah
I'm gonna fly on down
Then fly away on my way
Fly away

A pretty man came to me
Never seen eyes so blue
I could not run away
It seemed we'd seen each other in a dream
It seemed like he knew me
He looked right through me...

Eels - Last time We Spoke

When you called
Your voice was so grave
I knew it would be
The last time we spoke

You said something
That I could not bear
To hear with my own ears
The last time we spoke

And it's a hard time
Trying to get through
All the days that drag on
Thinking about you

Nothing hurts
Like someone who knows
Everything about you
Leaving you behind

And it's a hard time
Trying to get through
All the days that drag on
Thinking about you

When you called
You might as well have killed me
And that was the last time
The last time we spoke
Best regards,

22 Acacia Avenue
by Iron Maiden

If youre feeling down depressed and lonely
I know a place where we can go
22 acacia avenue meet a lady that I know
So if youre looking for a good time
And youre prepared to pay the price
Fifteen quid is all she asks for
Everybodys got their vice

If youre waiting for a long time for the rest to do their piece
You can tell her that you know me and you might even get it free
So any time youre down the east end dont you hesitate to go
You can take my honest word for it shell teach you more than you can know

Charlotte cant you get out from all this madness
Cant you see it only brings you sadness
When you entertain your men dont know the risk of getting disease

Some day when youre reaching the age of forty
I bet youll regret the days when you were laying
Nobody then will want to know
You wont have any beautiful wares to show any more

22, the avenue thats the place where we all go
You will find its warm inside the red lights burning bright tonight

Charlotte isnt it time you stopped this mad life
Dont you ever think about the bad times
Why do you have to live this way
Do you enjoy your lay or is it the pay

Sometimes when your strolling down the avenue
The way you walk it make men think of having you
When youre walking down the street
Everybody stops and turns to stare at you

Beat her mistreat her do anything that you please
Bite her excite her make her get down on her knees
Abuse her misuse her she can take all that youve got
Caress her molest her she always does what you want

Youre running away dont you know what youre doing
Cant you see itll lead you to ruin
Charlotte youve taken your life and youve thrown it away
You believe that because what youre earning
Your lifes good dont you know that youre hurting
All the people that love you dont cast them aside
All the men that are constantly drooling
Its no life for you stop all that screwing
Youre packing your bags and youre coming with me.

Mostly because it reminds me of someone. :(

I Saved The World Today

Monday finds you like a bomb
That's been left ticking there too long
You're bleeding
Some days there's nothing left to learn
From the point of no return
You're leaving

Hey hey I saved the world today
Everybody's happy now
The bad things gone away
And everybody's happy now
The good things here to stay
Please let it stay

There's a million mouths to feed
And I've got everything I need
I'm breathing
And there's a hurting thing inside
But I've got everything to hide
I'm grieving

Hey hey I saved the world today
Everybody's happy now
The bad things gone away
And everybody's happy now
The good things here to stay
Please let it stay

Belly - Untitled and Unsung

I want you soft in the middle.
I see a strange and furious face.
I know your heart.

I want your pearly hand in my hair.
We make a strange and furious pair.
I want you locked in the middle.
I know your heart.
I know your heart.
It's just like mine was.

So you wanna know why I can't sleep.
You wanna know why I can't sleep.
You wanna know why I can't sleep.
Unless I've got a belly full of wine,
You show up in time for a bad time.
Mmm, 'less I've got a belly full of wine,
You show up and the world is wild.

I want your pearly little hand in my hair.
We make a strange and furious pair.
I want you pearly on the inside.
I know your heart.
I know your heart.
It's just like mine was.

So you wanna know why I can't sleep at night.
You wanna know why I can't sleep at night.
You wanna know why I can't sleep.
Unless I've got a belly full of wine,
You show up in time for a bad time.
Mmm, 'less I've got a belly full of wine,
You show up in tails for a bad time.
Mmm, 'less I've got my belly full of wine,
I'm drunk and the world is wild.

You got it.
Heaven in your hand.

 Superstition by Stevie Wonder

Very superstitious, writings on the wall,
Very superstitious, ladders bout to fall,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the looking glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past.

When you believe in things that you don't understand, :banghead:
Then you suffer,
Superstition aint the way
:woot:

Very superstitious, wash your face and hands,
Rid me of the problem, do all that you can,
Keep me in a daydream, keep me going strong,
You don't wanna save me, sad is my song.

When you believe in things that you don't understand, :dono:
Then you suffer,
Superstition aint the way, yeah, yeah. :mod:

Very superstitious, nothing more to say,
Very superstitious, the devils on his way,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the looking glass,
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past

When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition aint the way, no, no, no :td:
