Buildings, bridges and trucks look like toys, swept up in the gigantic mud wave, cascading down Nepal’s Bhote Koshi River. The magnitude of the flooding, burying entire villages in its path, beggars belief.
Climate scientists have been warning that the Himalayas are warming faster than the rest of the world, increasing the chances of a disaster of this scale.

Re: Global Climate Change Science News
Shocking news.
Our educational group has connections to schools in Nepal. They're in the north Terai, a low-lying plains region near the Indian border to the south-east of Langtang region. Nonetheless, some additional flooding from the glacier runoff is expected over the coming days - which will add to lands already saturated by this year's particularly heavy monsoon.

Certainly on a better path ...Iter is not ever going to be commercial power ....it's a research facility
The one in this video could be commercial if they can tame the materials science needed.

World’s seas heated by a record 23 zettajoules last year
10th Copernicus Ocean State Report (PDF)A record-breaking 23 zettajoules of heat was sunk into the world’s seas last year, leaving ocean waters hotter, higher and less hospitable, a report has found.
The explosive addition of thermal energy, which was almost 40 times greater than all the energy humanity used that year, comes amid far-reaching changes to the deep water bodies fundamental to life on Earth.
Sea levels have risen by about 3.8mm per year since 1999, and at a faster rate of 4.2mm per year between 2012 and 2025, according to the 10th edition of the Copernicus ocean state report. It found the global ocean has become 17% more acidic in the last 40 years.
Oceans have absorbed about one-third of the carbon dioxide that humanity has spewed and about 90% of the extra heat that greenhouse gas pollution has trapped in the Earth’s system...

Re: Global Climate Change Science News
‘Explosion of melt rates’: 20% of Swiss glaciers lost in five years
Report + maps.Switzerland has lost almost one-fifth of its ice in just five years, research has found, in a dramatic reshaping of the Alpine country whose big white glaciers have been reduced to moonlike rock deserts, scientists say.
Swiss glaciers shrank by 5.5% in the first eight months of 2026, according to an annual monitoring report, after a summer of scorching heatwaves that followed a winter with little snow. The reduction in ice volume falls just shy of the record set in 2022 and brings the total loss of glacier ice since 2021 to 19.4%.
Matthias Huss, a glaciologist at ETH Zürich and lead author of the report, said many people do not realise how fast glaciers are retreating, or that just one generation ago some now-barren sites used to sit beneath hundreds of metres of ice. The scientists have not yet compiled a formal tally of lost glaciers this year but said they had witnessed the death of a number of small ones...

Re: Global Climate Change Science News
I have got to the point where I think that we are simply totally fucked, and there is nothing we can do to change it - or at least we could in theory, but the political reality is that we won't...
