Re: Carbon emission reduction: News and technology
And yet... it's in the article...
(my bold)...
"From catastrophic wildfires to destructive floods and rising seas, the impacts of climate change are already being felt across this country. Every new fossil fuel project deepens that crisis." ...
But if that draws too-subtle a line between policy and consequences for you we could talk about how Carney's govt has gone all-in on new fossil fuel infrastructure, how it's weakened and delayed introducing regulations on Methane emissions, put off restructuring frameworks intended to develop a clean energy grid (until 2050!), completely scrapped already planned oil and gas emissions caps and consumer carbon pricing, significantly delayed and weakened zero-emission vehicles mandates (leading to a dramatic drop-off in EV sales), or rolled back proposed anti-greenwashing legislation.
While Canada burns it turns out its Prime Minister is not the environmental champion his PR team claimed he was before the election. Whoddathunkit?

No it doesn't. Climate change is a juggernaut with momentum. You can afford to take the break off fossil fuels gradually without wrecking industrial civilization more than it is already. Realign to post fossil fuel civlization without a communist dark ages brought about by a panic industrial civilization shutdown, after hitting the greta iceberg. Yest, you are going to suffer either way - but the question is do you want your children to live in communist mudhuts or capitalist appartments...

Lol. I don't make supporting the UK's PM a condition of my national identity, nor do I derive my public political persona from that identity - though clearly you do.macdoc wrote:Don't throw rocks ....look to your own mess. While Canada burns it turns out its Prime Minister is not the environmental champion his PR team claimed he was before the election. Playing the "my country is better than yours" card is not just a desperately petty attempt at point-scoring (in a game you're playing only with yourself btw), but it's also completely irrelevant here - the consequences of the climate and ecological crisis have no respect for national borders or elected heads of govt.
Carney's alleged green credentials were always a sham, trotted out for political expediency and flushed away at the earliest convenience. His fealty to fossil and finance on the other hand is long-standing and well documented.

Now now.
Sure, I was less than complementary about the Canadian govts fossil-friendly policies under Carney, but if you think that's "starting a pissing contest" then it just means you're personally identifying with Carney, his govt, and their pro-carbon policies - at least enough to be #OUTRAGED by my criticism.
If you think the quoted statement by the First Nations group was wrong, or that the Carney govt policies are right, then make that case and defend it. If, on the other hand, you think the statement was right and the polices are wrong then get off that high horse you're riding and stop personalising the discussion.

Re: Carbon emission reduction: News and technology
It'll never rain again. Not like before. Been cold tundra round here long ago and this is exactly the sort of abrupt climate shift that brought it about. Not cold yet, that'll come when the AMOC shuts down. But those conditions lock in for thousands of years, no matter your political stance, when they arrive. No rain is the new normal.

I always wondered. The land needed. Bit of a waste of land, but not wrong if all you can grow is grass. We have sandy soil in the West for that.macdoc wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 3:02 amNot sure I thought this was even possible

Seven hundred breeding cows and heifers reared in a ‘carbon neutral farming system’ sold in NSW on Thursday. But can a live cow be carbon neutral?
Numbers for a cow and calf. The bull is on his own.
Regional Space Guide (in Hectares)
High-Rain / Lush Land: 0.2 to 0.8 hectares per cow.Average Temperate Pasture: 0.6 to 2 hectares per cow.Arid / Dry Rangeland: 4 to 20+ hectares per cow.
