The big issue was how to sync them. Batteries will be dominating and nukes and fossil will have to learn to sync to the grid storage.
They are following, not leading.
Big problem: battery chemistry is changing so fast that the existing storage will be redundant in a few years.

Batteries and solar to an extent have very long life - who cares if it's down to 80% or even 60% of original capacity after decades in use. ( 25-40 years ) They will find uses.
Many are being shipped to Africa and India, A few aging solar panels can transform a poor rural area providing lighting and water pumping power. Lighting in particular allows evening education.

Old solar panels are increasingly upcycled and redistributed across Africa to serve vital, off-grid community needs. Instead of heading to landfills in developed nations, pre-loved panels are repurposed to provide basic lighting, charge medical equipment, and support local economies, significantly improving quality of life in rural areas.

Re: Carbon emission reduction: News and technology
wait, what's the good of upcycling old solar panels whose efficiency at power generation is very low, if still useful at all?

If a third world community gets some energy from cheap old panels for a few years rather than no energy at all, then it's a benefit for them...

Yeah. If you live in Malawi only c.50% of the urban population is connected to the grid, falling to only c.6% in rural areas. Portable and community solar allows hospitals, schools, and businesses to function, water wells and treatment to pump for longer, and children to do their homework in the evening etc.

Svarty ...try and talk about what you know about.
After 20 years, solar panels typically retain 80% to 90% of their original efficiency. Because panels degrade very slowly—at an average rate of only 0.5% to 1% per year—they continue to generate meani

It's fine to say "I thought old solar panels .....yada yada"
Especially when a reasonable answer is right at your finger tips.
Here you effectively made a declaration
