Trump and Putin, however different they are, seem to be both stuck in the same dictator mold. Trump's rule will end soon enough, and he was frustrated enough with things to start a war. Putin, though with more skill, saw NATO as a threat. He had to then attack a country that had some Russian speakers and was not a NATO partner. Did he think he can take it with tanks and missiles? Missiles would just destroy cities and expensive things he would have to rebuild.
Iran and Ukraine have huge populations. That was also the mistake in both cases.
And here we are. Puting will not leave, you have to wait for him to die. Could be 10 years.
