Assuming I understand it. Subscription could be/can be a very good way to reduce electronic waste when there is a end to end control of the production cycle. Apple is decent at it

A subscription model of hardware life cycle management can be beneficial in reducing waste.
That issue will be paramount given the insane tech changes occurring in EV technology.
One can look at leasing as a way of achieving a "subscription" model.
I'd certainly consider that before buying an expensive EV just now....the changes and pace of change is just astonishing.
Thankfully lithium is fading.

Like most things - it's ok in it's lane and not over/mis-used. Having it stuck on everything like a dollar sign is perhaps optimistic? Pace of climate change and societal 'fragmentation/collapse' might make relying on a subscription revenue stream something of a gamble.

no way I'm subscribing to tech, not unless I can make sure they never get their dirty mitts on memory elements that would tell them what I did with it... and of course the connectics are sufficient that I can actually store my stuff on external pods I own.

You are conflating security and privacy with tech cycles. They are separate issues.

i don't think they are that separate, as, as I see it, the cycle would be renting a machine, until they take it back to give you a more modern one.
