Had AI or proto-AI in the 90s and even before. It was called recursive interpolation back in those days. Fascinating but wouldn't say it was the heart of the machine. But it did have some spooky predictive aspects. Couldn't fault it's near magical property to predict and then you could reverse the prediction and end up with a neat graph and some equation. Like magic. Clever. Scale it up and add some extra statistical props and LLM...does it hallucinate too much or do you when asking philosophical questions of a engine built on the dark art of statistics ?

People want AI. People are always asking for their operating system to spy on them.

I guess so. And people are crying out for AI insights to smartly target them with ads, offers, and services in their apps and on their desktops. They should make it illegal to modify your operating system on your own computer.

Been thinking about the point at which AI takes my job. In ten years I'll definitely have been replaced. The question is how much sooner than that? I reckon about 6 or 7 years. But could even be quicker than that. Actually, at this point, I'd be happy if it was this week.

I have an Outlook address so the spell checker is now correcting both my English and Finnish texts. I use Google when I want to tranlate Finnish to English. It writes Finnish quite well, college level, but I rarely go that direction. My Finnish skills woould get rusty.

I had never worded any questions to google AI in Finnish, as I try to write all my Finnish myself. For practice.

But I did ask about song lyrics. I'll traslate a paragraph below. But it's the same English teacher answer, only now a Finnish language teacher.

AI: The meaning of the lyrics can be viewed from several perspectives:
Absurd contrast: The narrator of the song commits an extremely violent crime ("Last night I murdered my sweetheart / cut her up and buried her in cement") and reacts to it with complete callousness. The main concern is not guilt, but coldness and the fact that the cigarette pack is running low.

Denial of Adulthood: Despite the "adult" act (murder), the narrator immediately reverts to the role of a child by walking "to his mother's, of course," to eat. This emphasizes the character's immaturity and evasion of responsibility.

Criticism of consumer society: The lyrics mention that the "babe" wanted a color TV rather than food because her neighbor had one. This refers to the materialism of the early 80s and how superficial things can drive relationships into crisis.

Article discussed AI use of resources...water, which evapoerates a lot of time. A data center uses more fresh water than 10 000 homes.

hey, don't we have the tech to use heat to generate power? I mean, I assume that by definition, there would be a lot of waste, but recovering and reusing some of that waste heat would still be better than nothing... use thermo couples, or, since the things are water cooled, install steam turbines...

To get a reasonable amount of power from waste heat, you need high temperatures. With some effort, using a low boiling point liquid, you could get some power, but it might not be worth the investment. In cold countries, there has been some use of low temperature waste heat from power stations to heat nearby apartments.

Yeah I'm not even sure of the cooling process. Or the system being cooled. Seems like water is just the cheapest way to cool. A good part of it evaporarates.
