And the shutdown is what they want:

A government shutdown has begun in the US after Congress failed to pass a measure that would have kept federal funds flowing.

Democrats had been leveraging the possibility of a shutdown in an attempt to negotiate an extension to healthcare benefits.

But US President Donald Trump and Republicans were not willing to compromise.

It is the first government shutdown in more than six years.

When a lapse in funding occurs, government departments are required to cease activity and furlough "non-excepted" employees.

At issue on the government funding front is $US1.7 trillion ($2.58 trillion) for agency operations, which amounts to roughly one-quarter of the government's total $US7 trillion ($10.6 trillion) budget.

Much of the remainder goes to health and retirement programs and interest payments on the growing $US37.5 trillion ($57 trillion) debt.
The Mega crowd will be cheering, perhaps not realising their government benefits and subsidies will vanish...

Can an American explain how the Dems could achieve this while Repubs hold the Senate and the House?

To pass some things, like this, they need 60 votes in the senate, they have 55.

Remember the shutdowns under Obama and Biden? They were the Democrat's fault too.

SOME trumpanzees are deplorable? Hillbilly just did the understatement of the week... I'd say that MOST, or maybe ALL of trump's supporters are deplorable, and many if not most of them also deserve stronger, possibly less polite, qualificatives.

Oh, and republicans may not be left wing, but far too many of them, starting with the head honcho and his clique are rabid lunatics period

Openly calling for a political opponent to be killed. Must be a leftist.
Thirty statewide advocacy groups are urging the Republicans who lead the Arizona House of Representatives to take action against a GOP legislator who called for the execution of a Democratic congresswoman because she urged people upset with President Donald Trump to peacefully protest in the streets.

Kingman Republican Rep. John Gillette wrote on the social media site X on Sept. 25 that U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a Democrat from Washington, was calling for the government to be overthrown and should be hanged.

“Until people like this, that advocate for the overthrow of the American government are tried convicted and hanged.. it will continue,” Gillette said in response to a video of Jayapal. X has since limited the visibility of Gillette’s post because it violates the social media site’s policy on violent threats.

...

In an interview this week with the Arizona Republic, Gillette doubled down on his violent rhetoric, saying his only regret is that he should have said Jayapal should face a “firing squad” instead of being hanged to death.

I bet they were blaming exactly that kind of rhetoric from Democrats for the murder of Calvin Klein a few weeks ago.

Apparently it was a dystopian shit show, with fed goons breaking down doors, ransacking apartments and dragging everybody out regardless of citizenship status, age, or state of undress. It's seems rather unlikely they got a warrant for every resident of the building. We have to remember that such legal niceties will be dispensed with until order is restored, or something. Reminds me of some scenes from Brazil.
