There are certainly elements within the human condition which reflect our evolutionary history. For me, they do not manifest as absolutes, but rather as tendencies, often linked to emotional states. These include aggressive behaviour, especially to out groups, but also many types of co-operative behaviour. The dark side of our nature is always potentially there, but can be modified by culture and reason.

And our emotional states are linked to our environment, and to our antecedent experiences. We don't just start raging spontaneously do we? We don't find ourselves pondering which salad dressing to buy at the supermarket and then suddenly find ourselves overwhelmed by the urge to "KILL THEM!! KILL THEM ALL!!!!". We are not in a perpetual war of all against all.

Sure, the flotilla was a publicity stunt - just like Israel's humanitarian food programme - but at least Greta's lot weren't going to lure people to a remote location and strafe them from the air. The point of a publicity stunt is to publicise something. It's so much easier to assume that a 22 year old who's been publicly living their values since they were 14 is only in it for their own ego than address the fact that the vast majority of the Western media and political establishment continues to give Israel narrative and diplomatic cover while starving Gaza to death - particularly if you're in the media game for you're own ego, eh Piers?
