--and somehow Texas stays red. It's a mystery.

--//--

I'm afraid it's over. We may have survived dumbfuckery like this in the past, but that was before the world got so small. Now our most powerful leaders can pump the dumbest abstractions straight into the minds of millions, where it is instantly expounded on by countless questionable sources. How will anyone who actually knows how things work survive in politics like this? The voters won't be able to relate to what they're saying.

We're doomed! :hairfire:

Lawyer thumb twiddling for Supreme Court
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_pres ... nald_Trump
"nsurrection or rebellion"
In its September 2022 report on Section 3, the CRS notes that the Constitution does not define what qualifies as an insurrection or a rebellion but that the Militia Clause of Article I, Section VIII authorizes Congress to pass laws to "To provide for calling forth the Militia to, execute the Laws of the Union, [and] suppress Insurrections",[133][134] while Baude and Paulsen note that Article I, Section IX states that "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."[135][136] The CRS notes that the Congress passed the Insurrection Act pursuant to the Article I, Section VIII, that the Insurrection Act authorizes the President to use the militia and armed forces to prevent "unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States [that] make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings", and that the 1871 amendment to the Insurrection Act authorizes the use of the armed forces to suppress insurrection attempting to "oppose or obstruct the execution of the laws of the United States or impede the course of justice under those laws."[133]

Baude and Paulsen likewise cite the exchange between Senators Johnson and Morrill in disputing Blackman and Tillman's argument, and argue further that Blackman and Tillman's argument "im
plausibly splits linguistic hairs".[73] In May 2023, the British Journal of American Legal Studies accepted a law review article written by John Vlahoplus that argues that in the context of Section 3 the President is an officer of the United States and the Presidency is an office under the United States, cites the 1862 statute formulating the Ironclad Oath,...

Trump is so far ahead of his Republican rivals for the party's nomination that he's not bothered to show up for the traditional televised candidate debates, which have been reduced to a kind of Punch and Judy show in what appears to be the race for second place.

It’s worse, there’s no reason the Republicans can’t win their votes eventually. Why assume they want to vote for Democrats —the godless party that’s soft on crime, loves abortion, and higher taxes?

Millions of foreigners get iPhone and...register to vote?
Guardian:
As the New Year fast approaches, I would like to wish an early New Year’s salutation to crooked Joe Biden and his group of radical left misfits and thugs on their never-ending attempt to destroy our nation through lawfare, invasion and rigging elections,” Trump said in the post.
“They are now scrambling to sign up as many of those millions of people they are illegally allowing into sour [sic] country, in order that they will be ready to vote in the presidential election of 2024,” Trump added.

Trump is getting sued again. This time for hawking videophone on The Apprentice while claiming not to have been paid for doing so.

Every time Trump incurs another lawsuit, his followers become more certain that he (and by association, themselves) are under attack by nefarious forces...

Trump all in. He does not to be in court himself for all the January dealings. The SC scrapping Colorado ruling would help Trump in Iowa.
Underlying these changes is a sense of urgency. Trump and his allies have made it clear that he is hoping for a dominant finish in the Iowa caucuses to potentially push his rivals out of the race and to clear the path to an early primary victory.

Trump is slated to return to Iowa on Friday and Saturday, where he will hold two events each day — a busy schedule for him, but a paltry one compared with that of some of his rivals. To fill the gaps, his campaign is drawing on a network of prominent Republican surrogates, allies with national name recognition who are popular among his base.

Trump was supposed to appeal. Somehow, Colorado is still waiting, though if the supreme court says nothing by Jan , then Trump should be off the ballot.

Tarot cards bad for Trump
Roberts, whose website describes her as a psychic, clairvoyant and seer, pulled an ominous-looking tarot card from her deck.

“Uh oh,” Watters said.

“I mean, I do recognize that I’m at Fox TV,” she prefaced her reading.

“A sense of loss,” she predicted. “A sense of loss, but it’s very specific,” she continued stammering, ”no, let me move on.”

“It’s as if he may be thinking more about what he’s lost and not still taking full advantage of what he still has,” she concluded.

Watters also asked Roberts for a reading on President Joe Biden.

“Lots and lots and lots and lots of money,” she said.
