No figures on Israeli casualties?

It takes more time to count Israeli casualties. They're actually counting them rather than making them up.

Do you really think that the number of Palestinian deaths in Gaza has been deliberately and significantly inflated?

I've seen reports suggesting it's under counted. It's certainly a fuck load, and totally unjustifiable, despite what SD might think.

I'd also suggest it's a hard count to perform, given the amount of people buried (sometimes alive) under rubble.

It seems clear that the IDF considers that attempting to destroy Hamas allows any military operation whatever, no matter the number of civilian casualties...

I'm starting to question my support of an Israeli state. It's not going to happen, but maybe it would be better if it was disbanded and they all went to live in the US where they are basically safe. As it stands now, they are a terrorist state. No sane person should support such a regime.

I don't see how there can be any doubt about it. They claimed 500 had been killed by an Israeli missile strike on a hospital, minutes after it happened. We later found out it was a malfunctioning Islamic Jihad rocket that killed 100-150 people in the hospital car park.

As we all know, the first casualty of war is truth. I wish I could be surprised that people automatically believe the worst about the Jewish state, but I'm not.

It's not about believing the worst, it's about you wanting to make it about the exact numbers - in which case give us the exact numbers. If the UN estimates are out, how much do you think they're out by, and how do you work that out? Would you agree the civilian casualties in Gaza are significant and substantial even if the final figure is unknown at this time - or disputed, or whatever? And if we're going to talk about truth being a casualty of war then why should we believe Israel over the UN, the Red Cross, or the Palestinian authority - particularly as the Israeli govt and the IDF have been caught lying quite a bit already?

I tend to agree with Crumple here. I am very pessimistic about any form of peaceful resolution. Israel is not going to go quietly into that good night...

And yet that is what Hamas says it is working towards...

As to why the region is likely to continue to be locked into endless rounds of bloodletting, it is partly the legacy of a dreadful history of conflict and colonialism, and partly that simple truth - religion poisons everything...
