I had a book on group social psychology. I never got past apge 50, but I was able to grasp their concept. The authoritarians have a very tight group identity. Individualism is not important for most of them.

I've been suggesting that for some time. Namely that certain traits which are evolving in the species as a whole result in people who have certain, likely regressive, traits self-selecting conservatism. This morning an alternative theory occurred to me. It's possible that conservatives share a pessimistic view of the effectiveness of their own agency, whether because of intelligence or belief or what have you, and group behavior is a natural response to that, a form of compensation.
