Re: American Politics from 2019 on
A bit of a surprise. Young voters so easily confused. Always looking for the new. If we had a term limit of 1 they would be happy.
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/t ... -dead-heatMeanwhile, Trump has support of 49 percent of white voters, 6 points less than he did in the 2020 election.
Voters under the age of 45 were also critical to Biden’s 2020 win. He led Trump by 17 points with this group in the last election, according to AP VoteCast data. But in the latest PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll, Trump now leads Biden with 50 percent of young voters compared to 47 percent for Biden, a 3-point difference that is within the poll’s margin of error.

You know, they should really silence him, or there is a danger to Their Democracy.

They are ALL too old. But I think I'm liking the high-trousers look.
Might have to adapt that for myself. Give up trying to get rid of this spare tire, and just raise my waist! Brilliant fashion sense!

Absolutely agree. And given my age, I can get away with such criticism without being ageist!

I'm not sure if that means you are younger, or older than them.
Can't imagine you being older, and still able to type, but maybe you have a scribe...

It's a real issue. The concerns and interests of older people are not the concerns or interests of the younger people who inherit the consequence of older people's decision making. The median age of the US is 38. That makes the the median voting age 54. More than half the voters are over 50, and as older people vote more and tend to be more conservative issues that impact younger people, those bringing up families, workers etc, and things like long term planning and infrastructure, get sidelined in favour of things which will secure the votes of the older members of society.
Australia's median and median voting ages are 38/54, Canada is 40/58, France is 42/60, and the UK is 44/62. It's worth noting that many of these generational disparities can be ameliorated by proportional voting systems.

Re: American Politics from 2019 on
Bacon is 20% more expensive than 2 years ago! Biden caused it!
NYT morning letter By David LeonhardtA president can’t do much to bring down prices in the short term, yet Biden has taken steps to reduce energy prices. He approved an enormous new oil project on federal land in Alaska, while enacting billions of dollars of subsidies for clean energy. He is pursuing the sort of all-of-the-above energy policy that many Americans favor.
But he has been strangely unwilling to brag about the Alaska project, as Matthew Yglesias noted in a recent Substack newsletter. Biden seems more focused on avoiding criticism from climate activists than on winning over swing voters who can help re-elect arguably the most climate-friendly president ever.
There is a similar dynamic on immigration. Undocumented migration to the U.S. surged after Biden took office, partly in response to his welcoming campaign rhetoric, and many Americans are unhappy about the surge. Although Biden has since taken steps to reduce the surge, he rarely emphasizes these popular steps. Again, he seems more focused on progressive activists than on swing voters.

Well, she turns 35 in December of 2024, has a cult following, and is a billionaire with no experience in office. What could go wrong?Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 6:06 amIt's a real issue.
