Well in Australia they don't act like that. The dems should nominate a Republican they can handle, and then it's up to the republicans if they want to take that out. Use it as an opportunity.

McCarthy is a Trump bootlicker. In any case, if somehow he were to get enough Democratic support to become Speaker, he would lose whatever credibility he has with the Republican representatives, and be unable to control his own caucus. It would not result in a functioning House.

Then again, Tero is right; the Republicans are not interested in governing. They had unified control of the government in the first two years of Trump's presidency and their signal accomplishment was cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy. Made noises about 'infrustructure' but never even came close to getting something done.

They know their rotten agenda (shredding the social safety net mainly) has no future while the Democrats control the Senate and presidency, so they intend to have a Benghazi-fest, chasing after the horrible Biden and the nasty Deep State FBI. They will likely cause a government shutdown when they next get a chance (around September). In my opinion there's no percentage in the Democrats helping McCarthy or any current Republican get the Speaker's chair.
