Oxycontin is not a new drug. It is from the late 60s at best. It just has more steps to make it, so it was never marketed due to the extra work to make it. It had no advantage over other opiates such as hydrocodone. The pill Purdue made was the only patentable part, a formulation.

The advantage is that it could be made from Thebaine, which is from a non morphine source.
While thebaine is not used therapeutically, it is the main alkaloid extracted from Papaver bracteatum (Iranian opium / Persian poppy) and can be converted industrially into a variety of compounds, including hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone, oxymorphone, nalbuphine, naloxone, naltrexone, buprenorphine, butorphanol and etorphine.[4]

Thebaine is not terribly useful. You nake oxycontin or buprenorphine out of it. The latter, with a nal-additive, is an opiate dependence treatment drug. Popular in Europe.

Bah, from what I hear, it just prevents the addicts from writhing and howling for hours as cold turkey seizes them, but it provides no fun at all.

Shooter at 911 call able to kill two cops before he is killed. All clearly from Democrats defunding police. Nothing to do with guns!

clearly, if the police had had enough funds, the cops would have had budget to burn a couple hundreds cartridges and train to use their weapons faster and more precisely...

It’s absurd. People are trying to prevent the next one. But it’s impossible. There are too many guns. So they look for solutions elsewhere. But things like updated school policies and audits to ensure compliance have to be checked to see if they’re working. In the meantime you have school shootings.
I was given a year of free milkshakes once. The year passed and I hadn’t bothered to get even one.
