Re: Urgent need to buy 15 audio books by August 1st
oof... eyes are tired finishing Norwegian Wood in such short order but was very engaged.
So many familiar echoes in the book. Resonated with me as the Magus did way back when ...his age is within 2 years of mine so some familar time passages - finishing uni, taking off and traveling with just a sleeping bag for a month ....and even tho my experience with Japan was slightly later it was still familiar turf
Quite a world fusion of sensibilities. William Gibson feel but not quite in cyberpunk but in the cultural crossover Vancouver to Tokyo. Remains a fav book for good reason ...blew my mind when I first read it.
There are echoes Colin Wilson's The Outsider which was a seminal book for me - I used to carry in my pocket almost like a talisman.
The Magus too was in that category of impact for me.

I need a long motorcycle ride and will tackle another of his via Audiobook this time.Haruki Murakami was shocked and depressed to find his normal six- figure readership exploding into the millions when he published Norwegian Wood in 1987. Fame was one thing, superstardom another, and the craziness of it sent him back to the anonymity of Europe (he had written the book in Greece and Italy)

Neuromancer is a 1984 science fiction novel by American-Canadian writer William Gibson. Considered one of the earliest and best-known works in the cyberpunk genre, it is the only novel to win the Nebula Award, the Philip K. Dick Award, and the Hugo Award. Wikipedia

The Magus is of good length, and not cheap sans credits. It's been over 30 years since I read it, and at the time it was not overly greatly appreciated. I'll add it to the list, but I preferred Fowles' A Maggot. This gives me a thought. I'll likely revisit Canticle For Liebowitz, and in that vein, I would love to listen to Iris Murdoch's Nuns and Soldiers. It will be about my fourth or fifth read of the work, but it's been 20 years since I last read it.

Surprisingly, it doesn't appear as if Being and Nothingness is available as an audiobook. I haven't read it since high school and would like to revisit it, but not actually read it. That does give me my next credit purchase, though. I've been meaning to read Heiddegger's Being and Time since college.

Discovered Audible has a 10-novel collection of Charles Dickens for 1 credit. That will certainly go on the list, though for August I'm leaning towards Jules Verne or H.G. Wells collections.

Re: Urgent need to buy 15 audio books by August 1st
I've got them in both Kindle and paperback so decided against Audible. His use of language is incredible and I've got a soft spot for the Irish and the Catelonians,
Alexander Kent Bolitho books enjoyable as well and a lot of them. I have 26 - don't know if that's all.
Appears there are 30 in all.

656 books in my Kindle library and I KNOW I have some gems in there unread

You should also try the "Ramage" series by Dudley Pope...macdoc wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 12:07 pmI've got them in both Kindle and paperback so decided against Audible. His use of language is incredible and I've got a soft spot for the Irish and the Catelonians,

Listening to The War of the Worlds. Somehow, a collection of H.G. Wells' novels ended up on my account. It must have been a free title, as I don't recall buying it.

Re: Urgent need to buy 15 audio books by August 1st
I have an audible credit to spend. And I have an offer to buy 3 credits for $35. But I think my trial ends in a month, at which time I'll likely buy the annual plan for $120 for my first year, yielding the lowest per credit price as well as having plenty of credits to go wild. So, I'm struggling with my choices. If I can just wait a month, I can get all the books on my shortlist and not waste any money. But that also means only picking one premium title this month. The latter is the prudent alternative, but it makes it much harder deciding what to get now.
Top choices:
A Song Of Fire and Ice, George R.R. Martin
11-22-63 by Stephen King
The Brothers Karamazov, Dostoevsky, McDuff translation.
10 Novel Collection of Charles Dickens
I think I'll listen to more of Stranger In A Strange Land this afternoon to focus my thoughts.

is on libgen just sayin'A Song Of Fire and Ice, George R.R. Martin
I'd wait on the $120 deal.
I generally save my credits for the longer books like Peter Hamiltons opus works.
Sometimes there are compendiums on Audible that are really good value.
