A Supreme Court judge has dismissed a group of Satanists' bid to teach religious classes in some Queensland schools, describing the case as a "deplorable waste of state resources" and a political stunt.

The Noosa Temple of Satan last year launched action in the Supreme Court calling for a judicial review of the Queensland Education Department's determination that it was not a religious denomination or society.

Their review followed the group's application to provide religious instruction at two high schools and two primary schools across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

On Friday, Justice Martin Burns dismissed the temple's application and also made a direction that group founder Robin Bristow appear before him in two weeks to prove why he should not be prosecuted over his testimony.

In his written judgement, Justice Burns said the Temple's application proposed a school program called "Satanic Religious Instruction", with the aims and goals of providing students with information about the religion of Satanism and that Satan was a supernatural being.

The evidence included an email from the Education Department to the group that their position that the Temple was not a religious denomination or society was based on "statements publicly attributed to you" (Bristow) that the Temple was established in response to the Australian Government's proposal for a religious discrimination bill and that most Satanists "do not believe that Satan exists".

"Accordingly, the department considers there is a real question whether the Temple's true purpose is political as opposed to religious."

A South Australian magistrate has described a decision by a couple to have sex during a police pursuit as "extraordinary".

Joshua James Childs, 28, was sentenced in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court yesterday charged with aggravated escape police pursuit in 2021 and an assault in 2020.

Childs was sentenced to more than nine months of home detention for two the incidents, including a high-speed police chase during which he had sex with a passenger.

While the charges were related to two separate incidents, Childs was cumulatively sentenced.

"I have never in my time as a magistrate heard that whilst somebody was engaged in a police pursuit, they also engaged in sexual intercourse," Magistrate Koula Kossiavelos said.

The court heard how police attempted to stop Childs twice while he was speeding along the Princes Highway in September 2021 with a female passenger also in the vehicle.

The court heard Childs evaded police before officers spotted the car a third time and deployed road spikes, puncturing three of the vehicle's tyres.

Childs continued to evade police, driving while the rubber from his tyres began delaminating from his vehicle.

He continued driving with metal rims gouging into the road's surface.

A second set of road spikes were deployed deflating the last of the vehicle's tires, yet Childs continued to evade police.

During her sentencing remarks, Magistrate Kossiavelos said what happened next was "extraordinary".

With all tyres punctured and travelling at around 50 kilometres per hour, police witnessed the vehicle's female passenger climb over and straddle Childs.

Blocking the driver's view, the female began moving in an up-and-down motion, appearing to engage in sexual intercourse.

he nephew of slain underworld figure Mahmoud "Brownie" Ahmad has been shot dead in south-west Sydney as police investigate.

Paramedics worked to resuscitate a man found lying outside a Knox Street home in Belmore just before 4am with gunshot wounds to his torso.

Despite their efforts, the 23-year-old man died at the scene.

Confronting footage from the scene showed distressed family members wailing and screaming near the man's body, which was covered with a white tarp on the front porch.

One woman can be heard repeatedly yelling: "They f****** shot him."

Late last month, "Brownie" Ahmad was fatally gunned down in Greenacre outside a home on Narelle Crescent.

Shortly after today's shooting, two vehicles were located on fire at Croydon Park and Bexley North.

Strike Force Bati has been created to investigate the shooting, led by the Homicide Squad with assistance from the designated gang-fighting squad, Raptor.

Multiple crime scenes are being examined by specialist forensic officers as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.

Police say it is too early to confirm the motive of the shooting but have confirmed they are investigating whether it is linked to dozens of gang murders across western Sydney.

Well it's been dealt with. The gov had to pay out shitloads of compensation. But a potential Labor government want to hold a royal commission into it. Not quite sure what that's going to achieve as the system is over.
