Re: What are you reading now? (Chapter 2)

About Scott's Antartic expedition. Title seems correct. They were insane given their gear.
Mostly directly from the journals which makes the dire experiences very vivid yet spirits stayed high. Amundsen did much better with his gear and reliance on dogs instead of "motors", ponies and dogs plus man hauling. Beat Scott to the pole and lived to tell the tale.
I had not realized how much longer and tougher a journey than the race to North Pole. I do now.

Rereading this. It was thought provoking when I first read it and I wanted to revisit. After 10 years, it is no less thought provoking, although his riff on Smedley Butler made me LOL this time around.

It's an old children's book, but a fun read.

55 hours of listening for about $11.40 US ( we buy a years worth at a time ) ....good narrator and similar to the four Bobiverse novels which are brillant and hilarious.

It's a great read. Even Malcolm's bullshitting is outstanding. It's obvious he lived a great deal of his life in his head, both in the moment as a youth, and later in what must have been a life of near constant reflection..
