Rose colored glasses? Hardly. They've been telling me for two years that the world is ending. It isn't. They've been going on and on about how Florida is the worst place on the planet, we're all going to die, hospitals full and bodies in the streets yada yada yada fucking yada. It's bullshit. We're fine. There are no bodies in the streets. The hospitals aren't full. I know this from personal experience, having just had surgery. Not even the hospital staff bothered masking. Our economy is booming, we've had the largest tourist season in our history. Life is completely back to normal. Forgive me for not buying into the latest scare tactics.

The Free State of Florida is the best place to be, y'all just jealous.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

The first article is from last August. It's also from the Daily Beast, you might as well post an article from Pravda.

Compare the CDC graphs for Florida with California. Two completely different approaches with very similar results.

As usual we welcome our Canadian visitors, they seem to LOVE It down here judging from the massive number of Canadian license plates I see. They were literally lined up at the borders when Trudeau finally let them leave. Apparently a large proportion of your countrymen view our state in a different light then you do.

Largest tourist season ever. Seems a LOT of the world looks at us differently, eh?

Over 118 million tourists, 6 times our population. We must be doing something right.

You beleive any stats coming from Florida ???
Well, I do. The Worldometer page for Florida gives the most recent peak for the 7-day moving average of daily new cases as 65,280 on 12-01-2022 and the most recent peak for the 7-day moving average of daily new deaths as 217 on 30-01-2022. By the most recently available date, which is yesterday, the figures have dropped to 1,470 and 13 respectively.

If there were some big enough discrepancies between the stated estimates and reality to suggest serious fudging of the statistics, someone would not only have mentioned it, but also pointed out who did it, and how. Minor "adjustments" are difficult to detect. Providing a significantly skewed picture of any given scenario is not.

Almost 1,300 people in the U.S. died of COVID on Thursday alone — more than 1,000 each day have died of the disease every single day since Dec. 2, 2021. That’s well over 100,000 deaths in the U.S. alone in the past three months, which is more than occurred in the first three months after the pandemic was declared in 2020.
https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2022 ... th-us.html

I wore my mask in the rather busy grocery store today and got some funny looks ..of course thestaff are used to me wandering in in riding gear so nothing new there.
A few others had masks.....lots of others with evident health issues who should have been masked, weren't .

Cairns got used to no masks for most of the year so now it's a quick switch back to the carefree existence of the first year and more ....7 deaths in total up to Dec 2021 and no community circulation ......
Well that's changed but does not seem to sink in ......a much more contagious and at least equally virulent version is loose in the community ....yeah - mild for most, not for all and certainly a risk for the immune compromised ...masks are an easy mitigation...some seem not to get it.

We shall see how that works out.

A new strain will emerge there. Then, it will be a case of:

Yes, of course. We are supposedly on the other side of omicron. But there are other variants taking hold which could have even worse outcomes.

...it's always just problems

So here's how fucking stupid our government is. While the rest of the world is relaxing travel restrictions, we're tightening them. When entering the U.S. you no longer need a PCR test 72 hours prior to your flight, you get ONE day. This is impossible in many places in the world, and it's not easy even in the UK.

Fucking Biden. What a brain dead fuckwit. I'd wish the asshole dead but then we'd have Cameltoe.

Where's Ronnie Reagan when you need him?

Instant PCR tests are available in most airports and you are still looking at Covid without concern. I guess 1,000 a day death tolls from it is acceptable now?
Part of the one day is that Stealth Covid is so infectious and 72 hours is lots to become infectious with this bugger.
However I am not seeing a 24 hour requirement ....got a link or are you just taking the piss.

If it has to do with Houston, the only strain I fear is the Andromeda strain.

Yeah, we'll be getting instant tests at Heathrow, for 149 quid each. Want a 72 hour test? 30 quid. Want an instant test in Swaziland? Sorry, no can do, you can get results tomorrow morning, so you'll need TWO tests, one to get into South Africa, and another at the Joburg airport. You get to pay twice.

That's on the way back, of course. More civilized countries like the UK only require proof of vaccination to enter.

From the first search link.

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel ... he-us.html
Starting on December 6, air travelers aged two and older, regardless of nationality or vaccination status, are required to show documentation of a negative viral test result taken within one day of the flight’s departure to the United States before boarding. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight. That includes all travelers – U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (LPRs), and foreign nationals.
