Moderately amusing. Of course, people confuse the propositional nature of a joke with a declaration of fact or intent, but that's not how jokes work. Carr's joke highlights an inherent hypocrisy still prevalent in Britain today, one in which we acknowledge the horror of the holocaust but still feel that vilifying Romany, Gypsy and Traveller communities is fair game, as is limiting their rights. We laugh partly because we recognise the discontinuity, and partly because we feel the shame of the inconsistency. I don't for one moment think that Carr believes or is calling for RGT communities to be rounded up and gassed and taking the proposition of the joke at face like that, and then being #OUTRAGED by it, particularly from the right, is a distraction. This is the leader of the Tories in Scotland: check out his remarks at around 1:50...
